So got permission to spend some money. I had mentioned I want a new holster. I didn't really want to spend a whole lot but she new if I didn't get one I liked I would probably spend more money on another one. So I went for it. I bought a Galco V-hawk iwb. It's all leather. And it came with belt loops and tuckable C-clips. I also bought the extra metal slide over clips. So far I love it. Took some getting used to the higher ride height. Like the belt loops so much haven't tried the other.

I keep hearing that leather is better for your guns finish than kydex. Looks great!!!

Very nice! I just got a Kirkpatrick for a full size 1911 that rides high. I love it..............my new everyday carry!

I have been looking for a nice leather holster too. That looks like a nice one. I have a FS 9 and I can't see it being comfortable to iwb carry. How is it for you?

It's very comfortable. One of those that you almost forget you are wearing. Wether sitting, driving, walking around all day, no issues.it does make my jeans fit a little tighter. But I gotta work on that anyway. I searched and looked around for and all leather, I wanted to stay away from hybrid, kydex. It does sit higher than the shield in a stow and go, but it's all good.

Thanks, Do you think it would work with the core with the larger front sights?
How about a light?

I'm not sure if would work with the CORE, if the barrel length is 4.25" I see no reason it wouldn't. Although I can't answer for sure regarding the front sight. The V-Hawk is molded perfect for the gun I bought it for. So I don't see a light attachment working. And I didn't see the option to order it that way.

Nice looking holster. I've been thinking about adding an IWB holster for my 9c. Good to know you like that one.

Thanks for the picture. I really like the looks go that.

I've been using a Galco leather holster for years for one of my S&W 5906 pistols. It's been great. (Black, "cop" model).

About 2 years ago I bought a custom holster from Tim Thurner of TT Gunleather for my S&W 4014 (compact alloy framed .40 S&W). I can't recommend TT Gunleather enough. It's an incredible holster at a good price, and he made and delivered it very quickly.

Still, for a non-custom leather holster, its very hard to beat a Galco, and I love mine.

That is a great looking holster. Thanks for pointing me to galco. I found a similar one that should work for mine. Thanks

Love the way they look…and smell! Nothing beats a good leather holster. However, I will keep using my hybrid ones until I want to make the investment. Thanks for the thread!

Leather is actually more damaging to a guns finish. Leather holds moisture and dirt and it wears the entire gun. A kydex holster just wears a couple spots and once its with it doesn't get any worse. A leather holster can wear off the entire finish.

Sorry, but that's simply not true. I guess if you only use your gun a little, this might make sense. But, in reality, the Kydex is very hard on the finish. Take a look:

All of the wear you see at the muzzle was caused by a Kydex holster.

Now, it's easy to discount holster wear when talking about the M&P. The Melonite finish on the M&P is one of the most durable on the market. It will withstand a lot of abuse. So, an M&P even in a Kydex holster will not show a lot of wear.

That kydex holster is really bad. The only point of retention should come from the trigger guard. The muzzle should not even be rubbing against the kydex enough to cause any of that wear.

What kind of kydex holster did you buy???? You should not see any muzzle wear - especially THAT much. I have kydex holsters and guns…thousands of draws/holstering…with almost no wear. I would re-look what you are carrying and maybe try someone else.

BUT, you also have a point that M&Ps have a great finish. Team it with a great holster and you are G2G.
