Looking at performance...

I was thinking of moving up to an eight cylinder performance revolver. I was looking at the Model M&P R8, Model 327 TRR8, and the Model 627 V-Comp online.

I would be using these for target shooting and for home defense, if necessary, and would probably add a laser site onto whatever I was to get. However, I don't know much about any of these and have not been able to handle one.

Comments, please. If I decide to invest in one and have to order it, I'd like to know more before I make a decision.

LL617, I cannot comment on the R8 or the TR8, because I have not even held one. But I can comment on the M627 V-Comp. I consider the V-Comp the most accurate revolver I own. It could just be me, but if I ever wanted to impress someone with my shooting, I would take the V-Comp and let the chips fall where they may. It is not a light weight, that is certain, but once you get into a rhythm shooting with it, it is just a delight to shoot. I really enjoy mine, as if you could not tell. If you have any questions, I will try to answer them. Here is mine.

Thank you for your response. I do have a question: Have you had any problems when the revolver gets hot? I wonder because the gun is a mixture of steel and alloy elements.

I am not so concerned about the weight because I enjoy shooting my 617 greatly.

Got a V-comp & a R-8 they are my two favorite guns both are extremely accurate. One of them always goes to the range.

You won't regret getting one.

Not that I can tell I don't shoot competitively both are just great shooters. I lucked into the V-comp it is a prelock not the two tone model and I wasn't looking for one but it came up for sale locally with the aluminum case and I got it for $900.00 then bought a 627 pro & finally the R8 I really like the short trigger stroke and cylinder turn on the 8 shot revolvers. I will buy most any 8 shot I find locally if the gun & price are decent.

I have a Model 325 Thunder Ranch which is the .45 ACP with a 4" barrel. So its basically the 327 in a different caliber. I love the thing and am looking for a R8 or TRR8 to go with it.

R8 vs TRR8 differences - Do you like the solid right side barrel shroud with the big M&P logo (R8) or the ejector cut out without the logo (TRR8) and do you want a removable bottom rail or not. I like the looks of both but I bought the TRR8 as I just like that cutout and lack of logo a bit better.

To the OP: I would get the R8/TRR8 over the V-Comp if it's for a nightstand home defense gun as the VComp is a bit bulky and doesn't come with the rail for a light/red dot.

I purchased a TRR8 as a bowling pin gun. I don't have any experience with the other two models, but I'm VERY, VERY happy with the TRR8. It's the first revolver I've ever shot that I can actually hit accurately double-action with (a bowling pin at 25' is not a particularly large target, especially when you're in a hurry). I would not feel inadequately armed with this as a home-defense gun, and it has the ability to mount an under-barrel flashlight/laser, or an optic for hunting. Best of all worlds.
