The 'unofficial' 58 Club

Thanks for the compliments XTrooper. I like the 'minimalist' look to these style grips. The target grips came with the gun when I bought it, and while they feel good in the hand, they are a little too bulky for carry. I carry the M58 in an OWB thumb break, and the target grips were just a little too long to get in the way. These magnas look nice and carry well.

Iggy: thanks for sharing your experience. I cannot imagine having to shoot those Remingtons indoors in an LEO capacity. While the muzzle flash would also set the bad guy aflame, the noise would be absolutely deafening.

I find that the Speer 210 gr. Deep Curls (Gold Dots) are about 10-15 percent less flash and noise, they are still quite intense.

One day I will start to reload.

Yup, a couple of serious social encounters in close quarters resulted in tinnitus and hearing aids. I sleep all night with the TV on to drown out the constant ringing in my ears.

A lot of practice shooting also taught me that recoil is accumulative in the wrists too.
It's a wonderful gun, but you pays your dues.

CORBON IS INDEED GREAT AMMO. IMHO, THE HARDCAST SOLID 250 GR BULLET IS MORE APPROPRIATE FOR HUNTING BOAR, OR BEAR PROTECTION--AN APPLICATION WHERE YOU NEED DEEP PENETRATION AND BONE SMASHING ABILITY. IT MAY BE GOOD AGAINST BAD GUYS IN VESTS, BUT I THINK THAT YOU WOULD BE BETTER SERVED BY AN EXPANDING BULLET, LIKE A 158 GRAIN HOLLOW POINT, AS OFFERED BY BUFFALO BORE FOR DEFENSE AGAINST HUMAN TARGETS… IT'S TACTICAL SHORT BARREL, FEATURING LOW FLASH AND LOW RECOIL……. The 41 Mag is not really necessary. [sorry Elmer Keith], the same ballistics could have been done with proper 44 Mag Police loads...

HOWEVER the 41 Mag became a reality. It was designed with 2 loads, a defensive load and a full power hunting load. Back in the day they were good loads.

In todays world, with proper loads, it would/could be one of the best revolver choices on the Planet.

I will trade you my jet engine for your ringing Iggy...know how you feel. :( Nothing like having a idling B-52 sitting in your head.

My first expirence with a 58 was back in the mid '70s with the Remington JSP 210's...very hot and nasty round. Not for the weak of heart.

The model 58 in any other caliber just wouldn't be a model 58 anymore.
The 41 magnum round is an awesome caliber. Too bad we didn't have the internet back then it would of been more popular. But we do have a model 58 club now don't we?

If you don't like the 41 magnum please refrain from commenting it's our moment in time right now for the guys and gals to hoist up the m58 flag and give it it's just do finally. Thank you, God bless, bill
 
hi guys , I was going thru my old magazines about 2 weeks ago and it mentioned that Remington was going to make a metal pierceing bullets for the .41 magnum , has anyone seen one ??
I have seen them for both the .38 special and .357 magmum.

If you handloaders have not had a chance to check out Montana Bullet Works .41cal lead you should. Good quality hard cast that can be driven to excellent velocities, plus Dave Jennings is a real "stand up guy" that is honest with great value. (No, I do not work for him but am pleased with the product he puts out) jb
 
Yes there is the shotshell issue.

I have found the CCI/Speer shotshells to be a most excellent product.
I have killed some big snakes with them in 22LR, 22 Mag, 9mm, 38, 44, 45ACP and 45 Colt.

I have also taken a lot of small game for the pot with the 44's and the 45 ACP's.

In fact I never go into the woods without some shotshells for my handgun.

You can hand make some shotshells for the 41 Mag. It is a bit of a pain, but they would be well worth the trouble IMHO.

Just bought this from an outfit in Michigan. The salesman said it has NOT been re-blued. I'm skeptical but will find out in a couple of weeks.

Congrat's on your gun and your entry in the "club"....I was following this gun on the other thread....would be interested to see photo's of the grip frame sans the stocks.....think you bought a winner for carry.
 
So I've been lurking on this 58 club thread for a month now, I'm down on the 58...only have a couple 57s. Maybe when I find a worthy specimen for purchase/trade I will try to snake my way in the club. I have had several of the mod 58... Loved them all. Also on a side note I have 3of the Ruger BH models in .41mag (I hope that isn't a dirty word in here,Ruger ?) . This cartridge is great in my opinion, I cast and load for it and am well pleased with the results.

NE and all...there are shotshells now available... I can't post the link because of the rules but if you go over to GunBroker and put in Petersens 41 it will pull right up...they are $27.00 for 20.

ayatee...that is a nice looking gun...wonder who did the modifications... The grips alone are worth $250-300.00. With the barrel shortened to 3" it would look like a Model 13 on steroids. The gun would have to be reblued for the whole thing to match...but who cares...it's a shooter!!!

Aquired this last spring

Model 58....N prefix....72-74 birthday
Target Hammer and Trigger installed....red insert up front...looks factory but I'm sure its not.....Grips are not correct.....shoots perfect
