Having one of my two m28 no dash revolers refinished in nickel is still having me on the fence to gett'er done. I was thinking at the sametime to change the trigger and hammer to the wider .500" target ones. I believe the trigger is serrated and the hammer has the diamond shapes on the thumb latch. I'd like the targets stocks but probably none left in stock but I'll ask anyway. I wonder if they could change the front sight to the red insert ramp front sight. And the rear sight to the white outline on the notch.

Then I'm not sure of going with the shiney nickel or brushed nickel.

Then I feel just wait and look for one or forget about it. I have an m27-2 with most of the options I want except for the red ramp front sight.

I got one leg over the fence and the other leg still on the other side. Am I making a mistake if I refinish it? The bluing is like 99.90% with just a turn ring on the cylinder. The rest of the gun has no bluing wear at all.

If it's got 99% of it's original finish why would you want to? M28s are getting very valuable. That would seriously affect it's value in a negative way.
I say leave as is.

Why do you want a nickel 28? You seem almost obsessed with the idea. Easier, faster and maybe even cheaper (cost of gun + cost of refinish + loss of value = X and X may be greater than cost of 27) to simply buy a nickel 27. But I don't think that's what you want. You sound determined to plate that 28. I say just do it. Apparently it would make you happy.

I bought one nickeled from a local pawn shop before I knew there were so few original nickel M28s. I got it for what I think was a very good price and it is an exceptional shooter. I would not sell it for anywhere near what I paid for it.
That said, there is no way I would even consider having a 99% M28 nickeled. If I just had to have one I'd find a used one with blueing loss and send it in. It will end up looking just as pretty as that 99%er.
But, it is your gun and your money.

Of course it is your choice. To me economics factors alone would prevent me from doing such a thing, but some people think I am too logical and pragmatic.

"I have an m27-2 with most of the options I want except for the red ramp front sight."

1. Take 99.90% blue model 28, refinish at substantial cost to have nice looking gun with 0% original finish.
2. Exchange Patridge front sight blade of m27-2 with nickel red ramp Baughman, which can be changed back to original blade, for same result.

:)

If you have a Model 28 that looks like this or worse, then it might make some sense to refinish it. Otherwise, NO. Do as I did and find a solid beater for your project.

You will take a for example $500 gun and spend close to $300 to get it refinished and have a $450 gun as a result.

Find a nickel Model 27 for $750 to $850 and watch it appreicate while you shoot it.

28

Don't no what you are smoking but could you roll me just half of one . Let it be . OldSeabee

I have a nickel m27-2 6" barrel from 1980 dirty Harry's era.

You guys are right I just had a stupid idea to have most of my 6"/6 1/2" barrels in nickel besides a few in blue.

I found two m28 no dash with 6" barrels now I have twins.

There are a lot of 28-2s on GB. Very few 28 no dash. I believe they were only made for around 3 years. I wouldn't refinish one, especially if it's 99 percent.

I just bought a nice 28 no dash and I'm thrilled with it.

I LIKE YOUR MODEL 28 finish. It has "Character" and has been "USED" as it was intended.
Worn finish with no pits or rust is "I am a working gun" and not a "Virgin".

Whew.....that was a close one.:D

You are spending money on a gun, it will lower the value and prevent it from increasing in value for the foreseeable future. But it's your gun, what ever you want...

For the Nth time, if you want a gun that looks like new, go buy a new gun (or at least a used gun in high condition).

Or another one: It's your gun and your money, so go ahead and desecrate it.

I won't refinish anything I promise. Not any rare classics.

I went through this with the surplus military stuff. I built sporters for hunting but used parts to assemble a rifle. No surplus complete guns were hurt in this process. I purchased receivers with shot out barrels and stocks that looked like they were dragged behind trucks.
I gave them a new second chance at a peaceful life.
