I'm installing a bunch of parts to my MP10, including a Magpul PRS stock, a Hogue grip, a G (SSA-E) trigger and a Magpul free float foreend. So I had to buy a Troy lo-profile gas block, and I want to get a Yankee Hill black gas tube, but I'm unsure if I need a rifle length or carbine length gas tube?

Also will a Noveske Gunfighter charging handle fit?

Thanks in advance for any help guys.

I was led to believe that the gas tube is a proprietary length from an older post ... have not actually compared it with another mid-length tube yet. It's quite possible Rojo Diablo may know more. He's had his hands in more than a few of these M&P10's.

i think I figured out the charging handle answer, so I'm ordering it and seeing if I need to file it down like other charging handles require.

Still need an answer on the gas tube length (rifle or carbine) if anyone knows?

Thanks

Thanks, I was hoping that the gas tube wasn't also proprietary, but it seems like a lot of parts on this gun are.

Rojo, any advice? If I end up buying both sizes and trying them, I'll post my results, with comparison pics. Was just hoping to avoid that.

thanks, I guess I'll either reuse the factory one or order a second factory tube and have it coated or painted.

Appreciate the info!

You may not need to modify the charging handle, see my post at the end: deep-chip-upper-receiver

Magpul free float foreend? I don't believe they manufacture free-float.

if you want the gas tube anodized in black, you can probably find a local electroplating outfit that will coat it for $10.

Thanks for all the replys, I;m going to reuse the original gas tube and have it coated. You were right, it isn't a Magpul Free Float foreend I'm using it's the Hogue Overmolded Free float, this one:

AR-15/M-16 Rifle Length Free Float Forend with OverMolded Gripping area and Accessory Attachments OD Green [15274] - $189.95 : Hogue Inc.

I'll take some pictures as this goes along and post them. I'll also be sending the upper, lower, barrel to get cerakoated, still deciding on a pattern, but it will incorporate OD Green.

I highly recommend you call Hogue and confirm that their AR15 handguard will fit on the AR308 platform before you waste your time.

It does, I already checked with them. It required an adapter that they make. I received it and test fitted it and it fits up perfectly.

The adapter is the AR-10 DPMS thread adapter model number 15060.

Here are some pics. Pic one shows all the stock parts that I have removed and shows:
1. The Hogue grip installed

2. The Magpul PRS stock installed (with rifle length buffer tube and Smith & Wesson spacer)

3. The Hogue barrel nut adapter

4. THE Hogue foreend is just temp installed for fit, since I'm not going to use the Troy lo-profile gas block, I ordered a Yankee Hill lo-profile gas block with the pinch bolts, rather than have to dimple the barrel.

Also not shown (since it hasn't arrived yet) is a Surefire SOCOM762 Muzzle brake/suppressor mount.

Once it is all fitted I am disassembling everything and sending it in to get Cera-Hide coating in a pattern on the upper/lower/barrel and Barrel nut adapter, and have the BCG CeraPlate II (CPII) all by Cummings Custom Refinishing (CCR - Cummings Custom Refinishing)

You reused the original gas tube with the troy low profile gas block? I was curious as if that would work since it's proprietary. I'm new to this and would like to make sure it works. I'm waiting on my Troy MRF 308 13.8" and low profile gas block from them to come in. It was backordered for a month. I didn't know if the gas tube they send with the gas block would work but I'm guessing it won't. Thanks for the help in advance.

I haven't tried it yet, since I decided not to use the troy gas block, because I don't want to dimple the barrel. But I still have the Troy gas block and I'll dry fit it for you and let you know if it will work. I'll do this as soon as my roll pin punches arrive, since the gas tube is still installed in the stock gas block.

I am going to use a Yankee Hill lo-profile (clamping style) gas block, will post pics when it is installed.

Troy doesnt send a gas tube or roll pin with their low profile gas block or rail. You will need to reuse the ones that came with your rifle.
