Hi
I'm kinda new to firearms and my first gun is an M&P22. How many rounds can I expect for it to last without major problems?

How many rounds did you already fired with your M&P22?

cheers

I'm over 2500 round - no issues other than a few bad rounds that did not fire and some cheap bulk ammo that did not reliably eject. I clean it after every range trip (usually around 250 rounds) and keep the slide contacts points well lubricated, but not wet.

I would suspect that the only thing that would need replacement at any point in the near future is the recoil spring, but good luck finding a spare one of those.

Many tens of thousands of rounds. The gun is robust. It's not the same as the regular M&P line, but it's a good one and there are no reports of one being worn out.

I'm over 5000 now with no issues. Had same concern about recoil spring. Called S&W asked about it. The rep said they were currently out of stack but would back order one at no charge to me. also mentioned that the mag springs should last 4-5000 rnds. I have 4 mags so about 1000 out of each. I have a way to go. Nice fun gun. I think you will enjoy. I clean mine after every range trip(150 rnds)

I've fired over 7500 rds since I got mine last July. I had a gunsmith break it down and give it a thorough cleaning and inspection after 6000 rds. He said there were no issues and I could look forward to a lot more shooting with it.

I clean and lube all my guns (all M&P's), but the M&P22 has an aluminum slide, so I make sure the slide rails and barrel, inside and out, are kept very clean and lubed after every range trip or competitive event. I only shoot Mini-Mags through it, as they are cleaner than the rest.
So far, it seems to be holding up a lot better than the Walther P-22 I had, with the same amount of ammo through it, over 5000. The P-22 has a zinc slide and didn't hold up.

Zero. Bought mine about a month ago, and haven't had a chance to shoot it yet :(. That's all gonna change this weekend. :D

I have a friend that uses the M&P 22 exclusively in his self-defense and conceal carry classes. He is ex law enforcement (and a sniper, BTW) and he has told me he has put 25 THOUSAND rounds through multiple M&P 22s. He cleans religiously after his classes and shoots mostly Thunderbolts in his classes, believe it or not, because they're cheap.

BTW, I've probably put 10k rounds though mine and it still looks like brand new.

Shoot the gun and keep it common-sense clean. Come back and let us know when you wear it out. ;)

I'd careful about shooting Thunderbolt. It's cheap but VERY dirty. I used some and after +or- 150 rnds. the barrel starts to lead up. Not so east clean. The ammo runs fine. After it leads the rnds begin to key hole and loose accuracy. I have a box of 300 and know others who have some. I'd give them to someone I don't like.
My suggestion, It's a great little gun. Don't foul it up. It will even run CCI standard velocity ( which is actually sub sonic, 1060 fps.)

Bought mine in October of 2013. Ran CCI mini mags perfect. Had trouble with ftfeed with the CCI standard velocity at first. Now after 1500 rds it'll shoot them too. As for life expectancy, probably will last longer than I will.

10,000+ rounds

Replaced the "recoil spring" and "extractor" at the 10,000 mark.

Runs like a champ.......

Bought my M&P .22 about a year ago and have most likely run 1,500 rounds through it. I bought it because I also own a full size M&P 9mm and wanted to practice with less expensive ammo. It's VERY picky however with ammo but runs flawlessly with CCI mini mags or Remington Golden Hollow Points. Any other type of target .22 ammo usually won't eject after being fired about every other round.

Love the way the trigger feels similar to my M&P 9mm plus I can use the same holsters. One more downfall to mention, I wish that S&W would make white two-dot rear sites to fit the M&P .22 so the sights would be the same as the 9mm. I know some folks have used the steel sights from the 9mm but I was cautioned by S&W Customer Service NOT to use them as they could damage the aluminum slide.

With so many people asking in these forums for two-dot sights, why can't S&W make one for us? Thanks for letting me vent a little. I really do like this gun and consider it a "keeper!"

I have shot mine 7 or 8,000 times with no problems except out of one magazine, but I have 12 mags so I guess that's not bad. I shoot every kind of ammo out of it pretty reliably but it does like cci better I usually only clean and lube it once per brick of ammo or so o yea I did change rear sight to standard 9mm site without any problems

Standard Rear-dot Sights for M&P 22

Maybe I'll try the standard rear two-dot sights on my M&P .22. I'm pretty handy and with a little extra care, I should be able to make it work. Thanks for the confidence. Swampeast, did you notice any change in POA?

no I havn't I ordered the sight from brownells and dropped the gun off at a gunsmith and it only took them a little while to change it, it does require a different screw though

No frame issues with a low-powered round like .22LR. There might be issues in the long-term regarding shooting out the barrel or wearing out small springs and parts, but I bet you'll never reach the point where a little refurbishing won't get the gun running again.

Keep it reasonably clean and lubed, feed it decent ammo, and replace minor springs every 10,000 rounds...I bet the gun will run forever.

On round number 1, 678, 932 it will stop working and self- destruct, be sure and keep count.
Not realy...your grand kids will enjoy shooting it. Just clean and lube it every once in a while. I've fixed more "broken" guns just by cleaning them. Have fun.
