Retirement purchase!!!

After a recent long stretch of unemployment and some health issues, I've decided to retire later this year.

As a "gift" to myself I want to purchase a S&W model 625-10 2" 45 acp/ar with black frame. The black framed is harder to find than the clear cote with only 250-300 made.

I have a 625-10 2" 45acp/ar clear cote. Production numbers on that one are 850-865.

Anyway some will say, that's an odd purchase. Well currently I'm into short barrel 45 acp/ar revolvers. Hey we like what we like.

Let's have some fun with this thread and share what your one gun "retirement purchase" would be.

Everyone has their own niche. Just share what that purchase would/will be.

Well, I sold off a bunch of guns before I got terminated. I bought two hip replacements with the proceeds and didn't recuperate from that in 12 weeks and that was that. Boss' reason was I didn't have a degree? I bought a couple of guns with the 'settlement'. S&W 39-2, 639, Chief Stainless Special M60 and a 681. Both revolvers are no dash versions.

When I had to go on disability and my wife had to quit her job to help me, we still had a mortgage, 2 car notes and dwindling savings. We've only got about 3 or 4 months left on our mortgage. After that we'll be able to breath a little easier. My wife got a job as a home health care aid right here in town and that's helping some.
Selling leather products helps but after restocking there's not much left.
I guess my "retirement" purchase would be to get the house paid off.

I used my unused sick leave and vacation check when I retired in 2008 to buy two new third gen Colt SAA's. One 4 5/8th" on the black powder frame and one in 7 1/2" cross latch frame, both in .45 Colt of course. With the left over loot I bought a new 2009 Harley XR-1200.

My family has always tended toward impulsiveness, a trait I'm happy to share. Some people plan every day for the next 100 years... I don't know what I'm having for lunch, let alone dinner. We never waited for a birthday, holiday or special event to give a gift; we gave whenever the spirit so moved us.

Great minds, they say , think alike. My retirement present from Wifey (with a little help from me) was a 625-6 that I stumbled upon in an LGS about that time.

I retired in Sept. 1988. New wife. Old 1977 pickup & camper &living in a rented duplex. Completely burned out after 38 years with Ma Bell. Went deer hunting in Idaho for 2 weeks & didn't score. Talked to the wife & we went back for another 2 1/2 weeks. Took a real nice 4X4 Mulie Nov.6th. Cold & snowy but my old Model 88 Win. 308 worked just fine. And I came home a new man. Winters meat was in the freezer.

I retired last August after 42 years of telecommunications.

Bagged 3 legal deer on my farm.

I've bought 40 chickens and 2 cows.

Retirement is awesome.

That dial tone stuff is becoming a distant memory.

Congrats on your retirement. Not having much money when I retired I traded into a Ruger 1911 and it's a great gun.

I don't want to give the idea I have a lot of money laying around.

After 4 1/2 years of not working, been thru all my savings and just cashed in a small IRA. Oh well, I'm blessed to be above ground, and compared to some I have enough to get by.

It's fun to see what others will do with the retirement purchase idea.

To snubbyfan: I hear you, a lot of us are probably one event away from not doing so good. Hang in there!

Back in 1996 downsizing did not mean huge layoffs. They could save money by letting management types retire early. And they gave them an extra $500 a month to help them make up their minds.

Times have sure changed, eh!

I was a young man of 49 and took the offer. And since most of my family has a very close relationship to cancer I decided to resist the urge to start a 2nd career.

I have squeaked by on a small pension until I took SS two years ago. It was not too long after that when I found my new passion for S&W revolvers.

Can't point to one gun but I should have bought a safe that was three times bigger than I thought I'd need.

I am about done now. (heard that before have you!) Really. Last night I made arrangement for what will be #60 from jjbrewr1...if I counted right. A Ruger Alaskan snub nosed 44

Lately I have been spending more time at the range actually shooting. That is where the future lies for me....I think.

Who knows, maybe reloading. I am not rich my any means, I am just happy. And no more of those d**** trolleycars coming off the tracks!

When I retired my present to myself was a new Browning Citori Special Sporting Clays, and a MEC 9000 loader. I planned to do a lot more clay shooting and I have.

When I retired in November of 08, I was an old broke down Millwright. But I was happy. I waited until spring of 09 and I loaded up the Harley and started on my bucket list. I headed north out of Texas toward Bloomer Wisconsin to see an old buddy of mine. I was gone several weeks and my wife flew up and we spent a week up there together. What a time we had.
Later on in 09 I had major back surgery and that slowed me up for a while. Still riding and still working on the bucket list. As far as purchases I picked up a 59 and a 1911PD. I considered both as retirement gifts.
Nothing better than Harley's and handguns. Keep riding and keep buying.
