Been wanting to get a .45 ACP for my HD and cooler/cold weather CC but mostly HD. I was going between the Glock SF/RTF .45 and this M&P and the $279 was just too good a deal(hopefully) to pass up. I did some research im assuming this is the 1.0 Model and will be the typical LE-Trade in (with holster wear etc I know it wont be minty fresh) My questions are:

1. Anyone have one of these AIM Surplus LE-Trade ins?
2. If so how was/is it ? like i said assuming a 1.0?
3. Im just getting into .45 ACP later in life after starting with it in the 1911 and the Military in the mid to later 80's so whats the M&P like to shoot 200? 230? grain wise
4. Im assuming as most modern polymer era pistols it will digest just about anything
5. How is it as a shooter
6. Gonna need a few mags(2-4 more) are the LE ones I see also a good deal ive heard they are they are just..well like most LE Trade-Ins worn but good?

I know its subjective and a who really knows and I also assume I will just need to shoot it first to find out but did anyone change out of need or just to be sure it worked any of the older internals to freshen theirs up? Basically what should I expect from this pistol as a new addition at a good price and what should I need to do other than get out and shoot.

I will also need to get a holster(or 2 1 IWB 1 OWB/range one) and some ammo as I dont have a single bit of .45 ACP left. figured if I needed to order springs or refresh kit type stuff may as well do it at the same time too.

TIA for any info (My regular non heavy clothing CC is a Glock 43X or a Ruger LcpMax in the pocket) This will be my first M&P though ive shot and considered them and we used them as Duty carry at my work before I retired.

I don't have one of these, but I've gotten other surplus from them and always been happy.

These appear to be 1.0. Personally I shot the kinda mushy 1.0 trigger pretty well. I upgraded my Shield to an Apex cause it was my favorite pistol, but my regular M&P I left stock.

I've only ever shot 230grn in any .45. Typical push not slap recoil found in 45 imo

4. Im assuming as most modern polymer era pistols it will digest just about anything
Yes.

5. How is it as a shooter
Fair. IMO the 1.0 M&P line had acceptable triggers, and unimpressive accuracy (fine for practical SD, but not target guns) but exceptional ergonomics compared to the competition of the time.

6. Gonna need a few mags(2-4 more) are the LE ones I see also a good deal ive heard they are they are just..well like most LE Trade-Ins worn but good?
If you can find a good price on surplus mags Id go for it.

I have M1.0 4.5in/10rd M&P45 that had an absolutely horrible trigger from the factory, so that one got an Apex Carry/Duty kit installed and now it is great. It has fed and fired everything I have fed it and it is much more comfortable shooter than my Glock 21. This Full sized 45 has a Streamlight TLR1 and Crimson Trace Laser Grip attached and is my nightstand gun for the house. I bought a whole bunch of the trade-in 10rd mags from AIM and they just needed a good cleaning.
I also have a 4.0in/8rd M&P Compact M1.0 that is an exceptional shooter and the trigger straight out of the box was very good. The Compact has also fed and fired everything I've put through it and I've taken a couple of classes using the Compact. I would pickup a bunch of the 8rounders that AIM has, as that is an excellent price. (I will be running down, to pick up at least 6 more myself.)

Thanks so as I figured I dont frequent only certain models as this brand is the best ever and nothing else is good.. So I knew the M&P was a decent gun ive shot them from time to time and used it at work as duty carry for last 3 or 4 years I was there..they all worked just fine and were a substantial ergonomic improvement from those Ruger p series guns(great gun but blocky and crude as ergos go.

The price between this M&P @ $279 and the Glock 21 SF/RTF @ $339 was what did it for me $60 less, cheaper shipping all paid off.. now I just cross fingers not to get one that looks like its been dragged down the road behind a truck lol... Ive had good (a Glock 23 2nd gen with XS night sights, and bad a IDF trade-in Browning Hi Power.. glock 23 was good the IDF one was rough but cleaned up real nice after some cerekoting..I also got the choice of any box in the back at Gander Mountain of those old Sig 225(what was that a P6 for le/military) trade ins..the guy said if your worried about it you can go back we got 2 boxes and pick the exact one you want lol.... Cant do that with Aim im just hoping they do at least try to give you nice and not just random draw..

I haven't bought a lot of used guns from AIM but the last one was a trade-in S&W M64-6. The clerk went back and was gone for a while and when he came back, he told me he tried to pick out a "good" one. The carry up was good, the lockup was solid, the barrel was clocked properly, and it had some external scuffs, it was also filthy and covered with a reddish dusty grit and the rubber grips were trash. The revolver cleaned up very well and with a new set of grips, it is an excellent shooter.
Many years ago I also picked up 2 of the Imported Israeli Browning Hi Powers from AIM. Both came with a sweat soaked stinking leather inside pants holsters that immediately got thrown in the trash. Both pistols were incredibly dirty with large deposits of carbon, dirt and fouling throughout the pistol. I still don't understand, I thought with their history of attacks and conflicts the Israeli's would have taken better care of their weapons. Both pistols were used as base guns for complete custom reworks by Novaks.
Good luck with your incoming M&P 45.

For an IWB holster buy a MTAC holster . The m&p model fits up to a 4.5" and carrys a 4" model just fine . I've used the Comp-Tac MTAC holster for 17 years now always carried at a 3:00 position high on my side . My arm aids with concealment and even in a vehicle seat belted in . I tuck my shirt tail behind the holsters body guard and the handgun is easy to draw if ever needed . This is a very adjustable holster but with any new to your holster give your self time to get use to it and maybe adjust the carry angle and height , a week of daily carry should be enough .

I am also a fan of APOEX trigger kits but for me its the FST kit . Being a long time 1911 shooter I live a short reset 3.5lb trigger and my m&ps have thumb safety's too . But this trigger kit is adjustable for pull weight .

I always heard the 1.0 .45's were more likely to shoot better groups than the 9MM and .40 S&W pistols.

I bought a 2.0 .45 Compact (same frame as the longer barrel/slide pistols but with a 4" barrel/slide. My wife has picked it up off the table many times at the range to shoot it as a comparison to the pistol she's shooting. If she feels the need to see a good group when the one she's shooting isn't performing for her she'll shoot the .45 and it puts a smile on her face.

I've shot lead, coated lead, full metal jacket ammo in round nose and flat nosed bullet types of 200 to 230 grains without any issues in mine.

The LEO trade in 10 round magazines have worked great for me. I've bought them from AIM Surplus and other vendors. Hard to beat 10 or 12 bucks for perfectly good magazines.

I purchased one from AIM earlier this year, Mass State Police issue. Gun was in excellent condition and shoots like a dream'. I am 1911 guy so the Smith was a interesting change . The night sights have dimmed so I plan on changing them out with hi viz sights.
I ordered an additional mag from AIM and it was in very good condition. Go
for it, you won't be sorry.

Id be more than happy if mine arrived that clean.

I think you will like the M&P. I bought a used M&P 45 1.0 compact a while back, the one with the shorter barrel and eight round magazine. With the stock trigger, it shoots very well, in my opinion. While I ended up replacing the trigger and springs on my M&P 40 compact with an Apex kit, I've kept the 45 as is.

Midwest gun works has all kinds of parts for the M&Ps if you decide to replace parts.
