Do people actually read threads/posts?

I read the OP but sometimes miss stuff in it and have to go back and correct myself. I'll also read the responses to see if my point is already made, and if I'm actually contributing to the thread.

And no, mangoes do not bring out the flavor in a russett potato.........

I skip many really long post. I skip every long post without line spacing.

I come here to relax. Reading "War and Peace" length post is too much like work.

Laziness is obviously contagious.

Just like with group emails, I get a bit annoyed with someone replying to every post. If I see the same name 3 or 4 times in 6 posts, I either skip that section of the thread or move on to another.

Sometimes I miss some facts, but I haven't had to endure senseless babble.

I can't find where to vote in the poll, but I like the color red more than car accidents.

Senseless babble? Here? Surely you jest.

Some people will even say "I haven't read every post, but here's what I think" and then go on to give an opinion which is already well represented in the thread. I guess they just want to practice their typing skills? Bump up their post count? Or is this one of those "It's all about me" situations?

Like the OP, when I see that a thread goes on and on for multiple pages, even if it is a topic dear to my heart, I usually just don't have time to read all that so I don't post. :(

I decided to get into reloading and bought some powder yesterday. Can somebody give me some loads for .38 special using AR-Comp powder? I don't want to spend any more money than I have to. What do I need to start??
Start with anything green so nobody gets a scratch.

Mr. Shakespeare nailed it 400+ years ago. "Brevity is the soul of wit." If the OP's opening statement looks as long as War and Peace, I move on. If there are double digit pages, I move on. Don't need to spend 45 minutes to an hour trying to get the gist of a thread. Besides, while it might come as a shock to people, especially newbies, there's very little that hasn't already been covered, usually ad nauseum, here and in other gun forums.

I know in my own case that I when reading the first post and I get an idea I may jump to the end to start a reply - sometimes I may get distracted and never finish reading the first post.

Sometimes they are too long.

Sometimes there are too many replies to read them all.

Depends on content.

But I do like a good debate on issues and usually read more in this type of thread than "Which is better, Brand X or Y?".

Maybe if folks would stop posting meaningless comments that add nothing to the discussion, then the rest of us would read all of the posts. Just posting with "+1" or "I agree" or other little tidbit that just wastes readers' time is less than worthless. Better a lurker than someone who posts but adds nothing of interest.

While I'm at it, I think old posts should be permanently deleted at some point. I've subscribed to a topic on occasion that seems to have resolved itself, only to find an added and irrelevant comment months later. I think that a week after the last comment is made the post should vaporize or move to an archived location so new comments are not possible.

I don't read really long posts most of the time because they usually have many "repeat" comments and are a waste of time. Even if you read all of the posts for humor content, even that gets boring after a while because 98% of the time you've already heard the same comments before. A lot is filled with silly comments like "broccoli", "38 CTG", "+P" and other garbage and they think it's witty and it's not, it's overdone.
Something like the "Ultimate Model 28" thread is different because it has useful information and pictures all along the way.
