I want to buy an M&P CORE and put on a 3.5 MOA Trijicon RMR. I see they have basically 3 models: LED, Adjustable LED, and Dual Illumination. I have no experience with red dot sights. So, I'd appreciate any advice I can get in deciding what type of illumination to get.

Thanks

I'm running an adjustable on my M&P 9 and like it a lot. The dual illumination does away with batteries, but I like the ability to adjust the dot. Just went to a night class last night and when using lights I needed to turn the dot up bright so that I could see it. When shooting ambient light at dusk and dimmer dot was the way to go. And yes, I did have the slide milled to take the RMR and I put on suppressor night sights to co-witness with the RMR.

From all the research that I done the adjustable is the way to go like Stg 45 has already mention, my second choice and very highly regarded also is the Docter III.

I have the adjustable on my CORE. For my eyes, the automatic setting is a little too bright and blurry so I like the ability to turn it down a setting or two.

Which suppressor night sights did you use?

Does this mean you installed the Trijicon RMR between you new front and rear suppressor night sights?

Would love to see a picture.

Thanks

I talked to a noted trainer about the RMR recently. He ran one on his carbine. Based on personal preference, he felt the pros outweighed the cons, at least for him. We did not discuss their use on handguns. The guys at 10-8 Performance and their Modern Service Weapons site have addresses the minis on handguns pretty well. Read up and make an educated choice. I don't have one, but was considering one for my carbine.

I had the milling work done at ATEi and Doug said he had the sights so I honestly don't know what kind they are, but they are great.

I have the 5" with an RMR Dual Illumination (9.0 Green dot) and while i like the sight, if i were to do it again i would get the adjustable. My reason behind this, and ill try and show it in some pics, when shooting from a covered area(inside) the dot gets lost because there is little light hitting the fiber optic.

Inside with moderate light

Inside looking outside same light

you can barely see the dot right above the post in the 2nd picture but in reality its just slightly more visible.

I run the adjustable on my non M&P gun. I looked at the LED and it was just too bright for my eye. It was a big red blur. If you have any eye issues the adjustable is the best to get.

What determines which size (3.5 or 6.5) MOA dot one should get for use on a pistol?

Thanks

Either one will work, it's personal preference. Typically the larger dot/triangle works better for faster target acquisition at closer ranges while the smaller dot is better at longer distances, but this isn't a hard and fast rule. I use a 7.5 triangle which my old eyes find easier to pick up targets at normal USPSA distances but at the longer ranges I can use the tip of the triangle as an aiming point because that's the way I zeroed it.

I have the 5in. CORE with the RMR RM06. It's the 3.25moa adjustable red dot. When using the adjustments, it's supposed to make the dot brighter or dimmer. It does that but also makes the dot bigger or smaller. For ME this size (3.25moa) is perfect. I did plenty of research before buying and found that the dual illuminated will wash out like the pics above in certain scenarios. Of the dual illuminated models I prefer the GREEN over the RED. Many people say they prefer at least the 6.5moa dot. I got the adjustable 3.25moa and when I adjust it brighter it gets plenty big. Your mileage may vary. The best thing you can do is to go somewhere and compare the two (3.25 and 6.5). P.S. The adjustable can be turned off between uses if your worried about battery life.
