Official: Shield WITHOUT Safety

LOL... Now that they're going to offer them without the thumbs safety, I wonder what excuse people will give for not liking them. :)

Probably be "why even make one with a safety now?" It's not like you can't tell it's there and just decide to not use it. I always sweep that area with my thumb anyway because of the 1911. I don't use the safety that often on the shield. I used to in the beginning but don't anymore. It seems to need a fair amount of pressure to actually engage it anyway. At least in mine and the 3-4 others I've played around with.

Well the striker fired pistols with the safe triggers are really the same as a 1911 cocked but the safety OFF
Only difference is the glock types have more FREE travel but there still is no resistance
Imagine if the striker was an external cocked hammer you could see like a 1911
Would you feel comfortable carrying it with no thumb safety
Well that striker is Cocked but out of sight unlike an external hammer
Think about it

Guys, I have absolutely NO reason to lie about this. The info came in an email from Code 4, LLC. Their website is here: Code 4, LLC: Law Enforcement Sales and Service. Additionally, I emailed Grant from G&R Tactical to confirm and he also said he plans on getting some.

While I can't find anything about the new models on S&W's website, Davidson's has listings for both 9mm and 40S&W Shields with no thumb safety.

Here is the Davidson's listing for the item in question in 9mm. I would note that Davidson's repeats the 5 digit SKU number. There is a similar listing for the .40 caliber version. It would be best if folks who come on here with new information were not skewered until AFTER it is a confirmed hoax. I, for one, appreciate the information on new models.

My search for a new alternative carry / BUG is now officially over. The only thing that kept me from considering the Shield was the safety, so now that is going to be out of the way it will be a perfect defense pistol.

I'm a lefty and have had my shield since last September or so. I don't use the safety for obvious reasons. It's my every day carry and not once in the last nine months has it activated itself especially while in the holster which is a kydex AIWB. No I don't like the safety but since it's so small and tucked in its not an issue. If it were big like a 1911 safety it would be a different story. But I would rather it not be there. I'd like the choice like I had with my M&P FS .45.

You mean, like a Hand/Emergency Brake on an automatic transmission motor vehicle? Can't remember the last time I used mine, but every vehicle has one. :D

So I guess if someone doesn't think they want that then don't buy the car. Makes perfect sense to me. Also if the brakes are worn out then so is the emergency/handbrake since they're the same thing.

All my auto loader pistols have a thumb safety except my Glock. None ever caused me to lose a combat match.

Wow, I would not want you on a jury to decide my fate. The burden of proof is on the OP who made the claim.

Actually I'm pretty sure Internet forum protocol demands that in cases where you agree with post claims they are correct until proven wrong while when you disagree they are false until proven to be correct (and even then they're still probably suspect...) :D

I was going to come in and post about how this is ridiculous, because the safety on the Shield is about as perfect as it gets. Then I thought it over and I heartily agree with this. Why? Choice. Now there is less of a reason for people to pass on a Shield, which means more people will own this fine carry gun :)

This should of been offered since day one. I can't even count how many people complained about the thumb safety and said it was the reason for not buying one. If they offered both, I know the non-safety model would be the choice 99% of the time.

You can forget about the safety, but it's not as easy to manipulate as the larger M&Ps if you did want to use it.

Last I checked, people can post what they want on the internet...regardless of fact of fiction. The "burden of proof" is on nobody. It's up to the readers to either believe it or not. I simply passed along info I received...what you do with that info is your choice. If you're skeptical then I suggest conducting your own research and form your own opinion.

That's the exact thing I like about the Shield safety. It's stiff enough that it won't activate accidentally, but it is super easy to sweep when you draw. After a very short time, I've gotten very comfortable adding a thumb sweep into my draw and I've never had any problem manipulating the safety.
