This is one of those "what in the hell" moments. I can't for the life of me figure out any logical reason for this bit of legislation.....

Most Louisiana state buildings will have at least some seats with arms in the future | NOLA.com

Can anyone shed some light on why someting like this is needed-other than someones brother in law has a lot of chairs with arms to sell.

Matthew was correct. Never thought of this before and apologize to all the disabled forum members.
Push for armchairs in Louisiana state buildings came from Lafayette veteran | NOLA.com

Two possibilities:

1) To make it easier for the elderly or disabled to get up from the chair, by using the arms for leverage.

2) To keep fat people from sitting in them.

Look at the exempt places. What is left? Sounds like someone should take pld deep throat's advice and "follow the money".

It is for your benefit Caj. The powers that be want you to be able to approach mach 2 speed when you jump to your feet and yell "Objection" in about half a second. If the DA has one and you don't, well you are going to have to be on your toes!:D

Protection from "liability", Caj. You know, all those long "meetings" where employees go to sleep, fall out of their chairs, etc. :D

Caj, I'm confident you nailed it with the brother-in-law theory. But that one is strange even by Louisiana standards (such as they are). :D

I'll have you know that in Louisiana. our politicians all have
plenty of class!!
It is all "third", and "low", but they all have plenty of it.
teesur.

Even chairs have the right to bare arms. :D:D:D

Actually, considering your arms would be weighing down on the chair arms...... the correct terminology would be 'bear arms'.:p

And wow; what a swamp-genius rule. Must be from the N.O. Mensa club.......

It was meant to be a pun.

Many years ago I attended some N.O. Mensa meetings. They were actually stranger than I am. I did pass the test.
