Help from you Laptop guys--part 2.

Ringo, it sounds like your Walmart has some back room pilfering problems.

Thats what im thinking too. Two people there in that dept are kinda friends of mine and neither of them can find what their scanners say. They also have several kids that work there too-one complained to me earlier this week at how much she hated her job.

The MOST important thing is, find out what you need it for? Do you do lots of major picture editing? If no, then get a fairly basic, with EXTRA memory and then the 2nd MOST important is, feel the keyboard? Try it out, see if you like it? See if they have a 2 week return and if you hate it, then take it back.

I like nice screen, but upstairs I hook up a second monitor and use a mouse all the time. So, I am interested in a touchpad that works well, but don't count on it.

For forum/web and simple games most anything will work. I prefer to use mine wherever I am and not leave it on a desk so I tend to buy business models rather than consumer models.
You could just have Dell ship direct rather than messing around with WalMart.

Dell Inspiron = Good

Processor = I'm sure it's adequate unless you have heavy needs. There are many types of i3 but chances are it's faster than anything you have now.

Windows = Which one? Win8 or Win7? There is a world of difference between these two. Win8 looks like nothing Microsoft has ever put out and there is a steep learning curve associated with it. There is a way to make Win8 look like a Win 7 system. I have a Win 8 laptop and my son should be able to figure it out since he's the main user. I would like Win8 better on a tablet or iphone or something. I'm learning it so it's not impossible.

Memory = 6 Gb is very good

Hard drive = If you aren't storing a lot of files and data on the laptop, the size should be more than fine. I don't store a lot on my laptop but my desktop is full of very large uncompressed music files and I got a 1 terabyte external drive that I quickly filled up. This is my newest laptop and I have a 500 Gb hard drive which is plenty for programs and stuff.

Battery life - 4 hours should be good unless you carry your laptop around on the road a lot without places to plug into.

Screen = 15" is a good size. I have bad eyes and don't have much problem reading. There is a magnifier app that helps if something is small and many programs allow you to zoom. Resolution is as important as size, but my experience with the Inspiron computers is A-ok

Wireless mouse and keyboard is great.

From what you say you need, this is a good choice.

It's a crapshoot whether or not your games are backward compatible.

I use a kindle fire HD in bed at night, a lab top in the kitchen and a Dell puter in the basement.

The lab top gets used for online purchases mostly.

I purchased the extra 32Gb on my kindle. I always go bigger and get the fastest so it's not outdated too soon.

My advice: From what you've said you needed I'd buy this one.

Win8 isn't a deal breaker because you really have to work to find a Win7 computer nowadays. I bought one for my MIL and only a few places have them. LIke I said, there is a way for Win 8 to emulate Win7. The only alternative is to buy Win7 and put it on your machine.

One out of three I have picked out-is a Dell. the reason ill be sstarting a new thread on these is because I also have two Acres pickedout and also other questions to ask and dont want to get this one sidetracked too much. The dell im looking at is (from the Tigerdirect.com) site--is: Item nr: DEY 102301101 and is for $430.

Ill get into better details and thoughts in new thread because ill also be needing some more specific info on other things.

Im not sure which Windows it has? but, a good friend of mine said this one too should play those games and do what i need. The only thing about thsi computer--walmart-wise--is they toldme they have 4-5 of these in stock--but none of their workers can find them in their back storage area... Im asking them once more today, and if they cant fid one of them? ill be getting one from the Tigerdirect.com site Phil told me about. I spent about 4 hours yesterday seeing what all is on their site, and then looking for info elsewhere-just to set my mind straight.

i would have had this one above last week, had they found one they allegedly have in stock. Boggles the mind too. There was a guy who drve 60miles to come buy one of the same model as I wanted--but had to leave empty-handed.

Back in March when I first got a tablet--I went to Sears to get a Kindle. I got one--but had nothing but bad luck with it and had topay extra for stuff i got free with this RCA Tablet im now on. This thing im using is pretty good but--I miss the use of a mouse.

I went from XP to Windows 8.1 with out a hitch. I am NOT a computer person, nor did I stay at Holiday Inn Express last night . It took about a week of playing with it and now I'm fine with 8.1.

Just curious... If you've got a tablet and looking for a mouse... why a laptop?

We've got a couple laptops but rarely get used for anything. Desktops for the heavy lifting and the tablets for couch potato time and on the go.

My tablet is hard for me to use. Im used to a laregr machine but--most of all, with the tablet--I cant or havent figured out how to post pictures ye--and cant seemto do a lot of what my lap top was able to do. Imjust used to a wireless muse too and im hoping the last one I bought, can be used with the soon to be new lap top. ) I briefly thought of getting a wireless keyboard too--but dont need something like that.

My tablets keys dont always print a character either. It makes me look more illiterate than I already am. The ther thing that bothers me with this Tablet-is that if I accidentally tap the sreen (which happens alot because ofmy tremors probem) that the screen either zooms in-or out or does something elseI dont want it to do. I hope the new lap top doesnt do that or im shafted.

Tablets........

Tablets are a last resort for me. And if I have a convenient place to use a mouse, I prefer it over the touchpad. I carry a wireless around in my backpack.
