Picked up my wife's Shield 9mm from the FFL today and dryfired it, hoping to get a good trigger. Wow, is it crisp and the reset is very short. Where have you been all my life, oh Shield M&P? I will definitely have to have the Shield 40, and I haven't even shot the 9mm yet. I like the trigger on M&P compact 45, but I did have to dryfire and shoot it a lot to get it where I want it. But this Shield is starting out that way, and the reset is better also. All this for under $400. All I can say is SWEET!!!

Read a bit in this forum before getting a Shield in .40

Just saying.

Congrats on the new Shield 9. If you go with the 40, I expect you will be as pleased as the many thousands of other 40 owners are.

Youtuber Hicock45's M&P 40 Shield developed a cracked frame in his so I would do more research before making the purchase even though there are plenty of happy 40 Shield owners. I read about too many problems with the 40 Shield so I am hesitant on purchasing one.

That was a 40c.

Have really enjoyed both my Shields, one in 9 and one in 40.

Put another 150 rounds thru my wife's Shield 9mm today, this time instead of 124 grain I used Winchester White box 115 and Blazer brass 115. Never hiccupped one time. Granted, it wasn't quite as accurate as the 124 as far as flyers, but it was more than accurate enough to carry. I really love her Shield, but now that I have put 300 rounds thru it, I only need to find a good defensive round for her and it's all hers to practice with. I have had good success with Golden Sabres in my XDS 45. Anyone like them for a Shield 9mm?

Well over 10k rounds through my Shield .40. And what do u know. It still looks and shoots as good as it did from the first day I pulled the trigger.

Odd thing is, my ole lady shoots her Shield .40 better than she use to shoot her shield 9mm. Weird as it may seem though. She's been shooting a .40 for a long time anyways. Maybe experience pays off.

Here's and even better kicker. She took her .40 shield with her 9mm barrel. And then she took her friends shield 9mm. Oddly again, she shoots the .40 converted to 9mm netter than she shoots the standard 9mm.....all weapons are different. That's all I'm saying.

Since u own an XDS .45. IMO stepping down to a 9mm would be an insult to urself to start with. I doubt u have a problem handling the bigger calibers. 9mm for ur ole lady should be a perfect weapon. Train her well with it and she will do well with it if needs ever be.

My shield 9 loves golden sabers, as does my SD40VE.

Does anyone know if Hickock 45s cracked frame was an occasional thing, or whether it is something that has occurred with significant frequency?

I use Federal HS 124gr JHP. Also have used Speer Gold Dot 147 without issue.

M&P Shield 9mm w/o safety lever

I picked up a M&P Shield 9mm that does not have the safety lever. My normal carry piece is either a Kahr K40 or a S&W 640 Pro carried IWB at the 4 o'clock position. I wanted to experiment with appendix carry, so wanted a good slim polymer (i.e. lightweight) pistol to do so. I liked the crisp trigger on the Shield, but did not like the 3mm or so overtravel, nor the 8.5 lb trigger pull that mine came with. So after a break-in range session of 150 rounds plus lots of dryfiring, which reduced the trigger pull to slightly less than 8 lbs, but did nothing for the overtravel, I purchased and installed the Apex Tactical AEK Duty/Carry trigger kit. That really made a difference. Trigger pull is now a crisp 5-1/4 lb with a short, distinct reset, and overtravel is less than 1mm. Yep, it's not a cheap kit, but for me, it really made a difference in feel and accuracy. And the Shield seems to carry well in the appendix position, though I haven't done enough dryfire practice with it to go "hot" as my daily carry position. I will add that I have previously installed the Apex Tactical AEK trigger kit in my full-size M&P40 and absolutely love it, so that was part of the reason for installing their Shield kit.

Part of the reason I have always avoided anything in .40 is because Glocks aren't the only pistols that experience KaBooms in that caliber...

I have the Shield in 9mm and the M&P 45c...I love both! Skip the .40 and go for the 45c...you won't regret it, but you may very well regret getting a .40 Shield...

Don't listen to these people. 40 cal is perfectly fine. Shoot what u shoot best. If u like the 40 then get it. I have about 1000 rods through my 40 shield and about the same through my 40c. My buddy is almost at 2000 with his 40c with no problems

The post below the guy saying Hickock45's shield 40 frame cracked said it was the 40c and not the 40 shield.

Go put an apex trigger kit in it and it will be even sweeter. Drops the trigger pull to 4 1/2 pounds. Then add some tru glo sights and it will really pop.
