I noticed here recenty--that 22 ammo doesnt seemto be the topic of conversation like it once was? MAYBE that's a good sign? or im wondering if its just that more people are just giving up on looking for it???

I think people are giving up.

If anything, the situation is getting worse when I consider my usual sources, being WalMart, Cabela's, Academy, and my local range.

There seems to be some more supply in quantity, but in types / prices that either don't work for me or make it expensive enough to not bother trying.

The last box of 300 CCI MiniMag cost about 20% more than I expected at Academy. I think CCI in general is up (it was expected, as I had been warned by a manufacturer rep, but you hate to see the prediction come true).

And for me a certain part of the urgency has gone, as we got the Scout Camp stocked with donations and at-cost resales, and my arthritis is worsening by the day, leaving me to physically be unable to shoot anything some days.

Same here and that's what i was thinking. I gave up actively looking for .22 starting about Feb, and the WMs here as well as Dicks (not that I go by there much) never have it and Academy does have it--but its a pain to stand in line and get two boxes--after taking an hour to get there. I just gave up. Last I bought of anything-was a 100 rd box of .45.

I still stop at a local WM on range days. Last week the mgr mentioned that they had not gotten any 22 except some shorts for several weeks. I hadn't seen any, but his comment confirmed that I hadn't missed anything by not being there.

If I am driving by an Academy, Gander Mtn, or the like, and traffic isn't bad, I'll pull in and check just for fun. But most times, there's nothing, sometimes the Federal $20/ 50 stuff, and rarely (yesterday morning was a bonus) there will be a bulk box of some sort.

I still buy what I find, if price/type is ok, but to find as much as I would shoot in a good range afternoon (figure 200-300 rounds, never more than that) over a two-week period is rare.

About two weeks ago I got a call from this lady who I've actually known for a long time. It was my daughter.
She was walking through a local sporting store and saw some 22 ammo.
So she called me to see if she should buy it. The last time I was able to score 2 bricks, my son-in-law got one of them.
So he's probably low or out.
So I told her yes, by all means, buy as much as they will allow you to buy.

The other day I saw and bought 100 rds. of CCI Mini-Mags at a LGS... $10 OTD. Since January that is the second box of MM that's I've found for sale. Last Thanksgiving I found a brick of CCI Standard Velocity which the LGS sold to me for $32 OTD. That was of course in 2013... the same year in which I was able to find and buy some Fiocchi and Remington... about 3K total. It allowed me to keep shooting. Since January... via links on the 15-22 forum, I was able to buy Blazers, M-22, Norma .22LR, American Eagle and Aguila. This allowed me to have ammo for my daughters when they came down to visit. It was worth every dime I spent.

From time to time I read of those who insist they will just not shoot .22 LR ammo until it returns to what they consider a normal price. Fine. That is their choice. Maybe they will see prices go back to pre-panic 2008/2012 prices. And maybe we'll see $2/gal. regular gas.

I bought my 18-3 to shoot. I didn't buy it to look at. I don't need or want a paper weight. It is one of life's essentials. I can do with out shotguns and shotgun shells. I can do without heavy magnum handgun loads. I can even do without .45 ACP if I have to. Thank God I don't have to... as I can reload it. Thank God I can reload for my much loved .30-06 rifles. If I could reload .22 LR ammo, I'd reload it and shoot it. I can't. So, as I can I will buy .22 LR ammo. And, as I can, I will shoot it. I will shoot it in my little 18 simply b/c I positively adore it. It along with a Marvel 1911 conversion are my most used firearms. This past weekend my youngest daughter came down. We spent one afternoon and the next morning at the range. She had a wonderful time... and 1,200 rounds later I had a very dirty 15-22 to clean. Cool! It was such a joy to what her having fun. The ammo? That's what I bought it for.

Keep your eyes open. Use the various links that often are posted on the 15-22 forum. Ask family members to look for you. I've given my cc numbers to my daughters so that if and when they see ammo, they can buy it for me w/o it costing them anything. I got two bricks of Blazer just that way... one daughter saw Blazers at Cabelas... she bought a brick and her husband bought a brick... which they brought down when they came to visit. Keep your eyes open for other folks also. It may be that you find a brand of ammo that you just can't or won't use. Fine. Possibly there are others who will use that ammo. A LGS near town recently traded me Federal Champions for Remington Golden Bullets. He said they could sell either one with no problem. I really prefer the Fed. Champ. It was a even swap. Cool.

As to the discussions... debates... and the blaming, I say forgetaboutit. I want to see the shooting sports grow and develop and thrive. I will do everything I can to encourage folks to go shooting. That means when I am at the range and I see a man w/ his children shooting .22 rifles or pistols, I'll see if there is some way I can put some ammo in his hands for the kids. I'll shoot reloads in my centerfire revolvers... just like I always have. And, when my daughters come down, I'll put tape on my thumb and load magazines while I watch them have fun sending rounds down range! JMHO. Sincerely. brucev.

For the year after Sandy Hook local retail stores got about 10% of usual deliveries. Then for a couple months it slowed to 5%. Last couple months they are getting a small case now and then or none at all.

Meanwhile, a seller on Gunbroker username 22ammo has hundreds of thousands of rounds in factory shipping cartons for auction. Where is he getting it? not shopping Walmart for that much in shipping cartons. He's hi-jacking wholesale deliveries. Somehow somebody is redirecting wholesale shipments to guys like this so they sell at jacked up prices. I have suspected this sort of thing was happening.

Frankly, I hope he rots...

I have long suspected that humans and dinosaurs inhabited this planet at the same time.

That's the easy part. I saw the same stuff on early on in the shortage and started researching and I've found owners with multiple sites selling ammo. Then I realized how easy it was. Just open up several businesses under different names with different addresses and bank accounts in multiple cities and there you go. All of the 22 you can want and then sell it at marked up prices.

Some gun shops also went this route and some just sold their ammo online and not in the shop. By doing this they reaped large profits while at the same time telling their customers they couldn't get ammo.

Now when it comes to the individual who wants 22 all they require is persistence. That is all it takes plus some time.

I'm one of those who have given up. I used to enjoy shooting .22 but it's just too hard to get and way too expensive when you do find it. I'm sticking to loading for the other guns I shoot so I can enjoy the sport at a reasonable cost.

Saw 100 rd packs of CCI in Cherokee, NC this week for $19.95/100. Saw 50 rd boxes of CCI at my local hdwe. store of $5.95/50...........I can shoot my cast in my centerfires cheaper. BTW had a gift card for academy and bought 4 ea. 100 pks of winchester for $7.00/100. Still looking high & low for powder though.

In America, this is often called "free enterprise", and there's nothing illegal about it, unless you can prove it. Some people call it "Capitalism", too.

It's also sometimes called "gouging the consumer", but for a niche market like .22 ammo, it would be awfully hard to prove in court, especially since .22 (or any other ammo) isn't considered a consumer necessity, like gasoline, heating oil, or certain types of food products.

Frankly, I'm more concerned about having to hunt around for certain types of .45 Colt and .44 Magnum ammo. Or having to order it online and pay shipping costs.

I don't know about other area markets, but there seems to be enough .22LR and .22WMR to satisfy the buyers around here.

Jeez, here I am talkin' about this stuff again and I've already said folks are tired of hearing it.

I'm sorry...I don't know what came over me.

I live near the NC/SC border and it's never been impossible to find. Even during 2013, it was just prices that were going up. I just went to the gun shop today and for the past 2-3 months they've been able to maintain a whole shelf of 22 ammo. It's Armscor brand, 50 rounds for $3.95 a box. There is a 1 box limit per customer.

All I can say its been great here in regards to 22lr. This past Wed. there were 12 different types of 22lr available. CCI standard, quite and HP mini mags, win 525 count boxes, 4 types of Agulia 22lr along with Remingon and Winchester. When I walked in it kinda floored me seeing that much 22lr. Usually they only get a case of 22lr but that day they got a small pallet of it. Friday's delivery was nearly as large. Thing is this may just be a one time thing but I'll be stopping by my local Academy every day to pick up my limit. Now if they will only get some 22mag. I sure could use some.
