Any Walther P38 Fans?

Another thing about the P-38/P-1 model is if you look at the Beretta 92 series of pistols (the ones the US army adopted) it has the same breech-block locking assembly and take down. That puppy was way ahead of it's time. I think they are historical and interesting.
I posted some photo's on the P38 forum and those guys told me so much information about it , I was just amazed. every little mark told a story. Some of those faint marks only showed up on the enlarged photo's , I had never spotted them, and each one meant something. If you have a P-38 or P-1 stop in there and visit.

Since my dad died almost 27 years ago, I've had an AC44 that was among the guns he left me. All matching except the mag, correct stamps, no import marks. He won it in a card game off the fellow vet that brought it back. I've never fired it, maybe because the hammer drop safety was broken. A little while ago the spirit moved me to have the safety fixed and get a new set of springs installed while I was at it, so it's at the gunsmith's now. Funny the timing of this thread, because I was going to shoot it, at least a little. Now with all the talk of the values going through the roof since last I checked, and about cracked frames on the WWII guns, I'm having second thoughts.

Firing a few standard velocity mags thru it won't damage it or affect the value. IMO: Go ahead and have some fun with it when you get it back from the gunsmith.
BTW: If there are any issues with it the gunsmith will usually inform you.

Ma Deuce, your father's AC 44 is a steel framed gun and will be safe to shoot with standard velocity ammo but remember it's a collector's item and if a part breaks, the replacement won't be an original.
Use it, but don't abuse it.
The AC 43 and 44 guns did not have numbered magazines. They stopped numbering the mags in mid 1942.
