M&P22 Compact

Made it to the range this hot afternoon and couldn't be more happy with the new M&P22 Compact. First off the Compact has a better trigger and much better sights than my full size. Today I shot mainly for function to make sure the pistol ran well with my stockpiled ammunition. A couple years ago I bought 2 5000 round cases of Federal Game Shok 710s which are 40grn solid copper plated bullets. I also have a quantity of the excellent CCI 40&36 grn MiniMags which run well in everything.
I started out putting 100 rns of CCI miniMags through it and of course they were flawless. I then put 100 rnds on my Federal 710s which again were flawless. Next was 50 rnds of CCI Stingers which were perfect. And last were 50 end of Walmart Federal 550 bulk which was okay except for 2 light strikes.
Again this range session was just to wring out the gun to see how it ran. I like shooting one handed offhand and was amazed at the accuracy of the new Compact. I was shooting at 10 yards and only had to make a slight windage adjustment to put her dead on. Here are some pics and remember this is one handed offhand. Next range session I'll see what it'll do over a sandbag rest.
It's hard to put into words how impressed I am with this new pistol.
Nice shooting and great mini review. Does the gun look and feel like it can handle a lot of rounds?

If I can't suppress it, it's not worth it. Where are the adapters?
Got KC @ SiCo to respond to a thread on ARFCOM:

Stalking Rhino Industries has made an adapter already and they made one with our o-ring engagement. If you're interested in that you can contact Shawn at shawn (at) stalkingrhino (dot) com

Thanks BW,

I actually know Matt, owner of SRI. He gave me the heads up. I posted a thread about it here. I got an adapter on the way.

Missed that. I don't venture in here much, but I remembered this thread.

Wish they were done in black instead of SS or Ti. Didn't know until I went to his site today that SRI is in NC. Heard about them for years and their jail breaking business.

I know in the other thread you said SiCo wasn't going to make the adapter, but that's different than what KC said. Guess time will tell. Maybe I'll get the SS version and have it Cerakoted. :D

Will they take standard M&P 22 mags?

No, they are different. At my LGS today I asked that question. He didn't know the answer, he took a magazine from a full-size M&P 22 and put it in the M&P 22 Compact. The full-size magazine is a little too wide to insert and remove readily, and definitely too long as it sticks out the bottom of the grip.

The pistol has a quality feel to it, more so than the Walther produced M&P22s, and those have held up quite well to a lot of rounds. So yes I think it will be trouble free through a lot of rounds. I'm sure S&W ran some endurance tests before releasing them. Plus since they have a lifetime warranty if something ever wears to the point of breakage the factory will fix it.

Just picked mine up today and put 250 thru it. Mix of CCI standard vel, Agulia sub-sonic and Winchester M-22. This thing chewed 'em up and never missed a beat. (impressive!!)

Now I do have a problem tho, after the range session, broke it down to clean and notice the re-enforcing pin in the slide for the slide stop is missing :(

Guess I need to send it back to S&W to have that installed. Other then that, I really like the feel of it and the fact it cycled flawlessly with standard and sub-sonc ammo. (This is screaming for a suppressor adapter!!)

I don't understand the "compact" tag. It doesn't look all that small to me. How does it compare in size to other M&P pistols?

Size-wise it is very similar to a Kahr CW9. The websites all say this is around 15% smaller than the "full sized" Walther made version, but it does not feel too small.

I shot mine yesterday. Performance was as described above. No hiccups and it shot where I aimed it. I agree with posters above who have said this feels higher quality than the Walther. Can't quit figure out why exactly. Perhaps it is the better (?) metal used in the compact slide.

Yeah I am fully in the belief that the Compact part, and 85% scale, is not designed (AT ALL) in the traditional use of the word "Compact" in the firearms industry, as in, compact smaller for carrying concealed etc." , it is simply being used as semantics because they needed to adjust the "recipe" for making it to relieve themselves of any contractual obligations to the Walther made M&P22 etc. Their engineers or lawyers or both probably gave them a set of parameters on making this new model significantly different enough to be all good but significantly same-enough to still be a "M&P" and a "M&P 22" descendant.

Hopefully that made some sense, as I have not had much caffeine yet.

Why the thumb safety and magazine disconnect? Are they going to be like the Shield and a couple years from now they'll come out with a non-safety no mag disconnect version?

My LGS had one sitting in their display case, when I walked in yesterday for a visit. It's now in their safe, doing the mandatory wait. It feels better than the SR22 in my hand, and it's a S&W. I couldn't resist!!!

windage adjustment - how please?

I know it seems like a silly question, but I have a S&W M&P .22 compact i've shoot about 200 rounds through and I can't seem to find the spot to adjust for windage - may I ask how where you did it on yours? I know it SHOULD be the rear sight blade area, but I don't see anything to adjust. Please let me know, thank you. By the way, I love shooting mine, it is now my favorite .22 to shoot.

I believe there is an (1/16") included allen wrench for said adjustment. It should be on the right side of the blade, I think. I won't have mine in hand till next week, but that was what I read somewhere.

On the left side on the back (basically the blade area) you should see small hole. You should be able to take that little allen key that was included and insert it. Once in, turn it to make adjustments.

The above is correct, you use the supplied (tiny) allen wrench on the left side of the rear sight. Works like a charm.

Went out to a friends personal range this afternoon and let 3 people shoot the Compact. We went thru a 500 round brick of Federal 710s without a single hiccup, this thing is reliable. All 3 shooters were impressed with it, two own Walther P22s and like the Smith better. I'm going to need some extra magazines in short order.

I was thinking the same thing, mag. I figure, might be a good idea to grab a few of these mags while these Compacts are still somewhat scarce and before SW starts having to put their magazine line on overdrive to meet the demand. When this gun hits saturation point, every one is gonna want extra mags.

That is another compliment that I will hand SW on this gun. The magazines feel a good deal higher quality than the Walther made jobs for MP 22.

Maybe I am just biased, but....maybe not.

One followed me home today. Paid too much, but the place I would otherwise have shopped was the price difference in gas. As well, the store had some 22lr set back for gun purchasers, at a fair price. The other store has been out for months.

It will go to the range mid-week.

Question - what ammo (speed being the biggest question) has been used? The manual is very vague (at least it doesn't say "don't use" anything in particular.

I did talk a guy out of buying a mosquito - he got the M&P as well.

And remember there is a 222 round box of Winchester .22lr promotion on the S&W site. Easy to do online, but you'll need a scan or picture of the receipt to send with the submission.

Needed another .22 like a, oh well, we all know...
