Some cousins and I were wandering around the funeral home while the adults discussed things.
We wandered into the embalming room!
The conversation went like this:
The undertaker told us - Boys, you don't need to be in here.
Is that guy dead?
Yes he is.
Aren't you afraid to be in here with a dead guy?
The dead never bother anyone. It's the live ones you have to watch out for.

For some reason that's stayed with me

When it comes to so called zombies and Bigfoot, yes. Extra Terrestrials, not sure.

Was working security in the nuclear weapons area at Clark Air Base, PI one night with another Air Policeman. We were standing by a guard tower and looking at the cloudless sky with millions of stars shining brightly.

All of a sudden he says, "hi mom and dad, I'll see you soon". I asked if his parents were dead, and he said "no, they live on another planet, and I'm leaving soon to go back home to them".

Now this guy is carrying a rifle so I got a little nervous. Mentioned the incident to some other AP's. Don't know what happened, but he wasn't around shortly thereafter. Maybe he did return to planet Xeon, who knows.

Zombies come from the voodoo religion and Haitian folklore, probably derived from the West African heritage of that island people, as creatures brought back to life through the use of magical spells.

When I read back over that sentence, it tells me what I need to know about whether to believe.

I think the great majority of folks who post on here about zombies are having us on. The rest are, well, "excitable folk."

I believe the zombie theme is popular because subconsciously people feel the society is not well, that many people act like zombies. People feel the zombie apocalypse is coming, if not here already. Just watch the news.

"Zombies" are just a metaphor for an apocalyptic chaos that could occur in a societal breakdown.

However... and this is my belief should such a societal breakdown occur: WROL... any evil, desperation and viciousness will be executed and rendered by some seriously-thinkin' folks... and not some single-minded or brain-dead walkin' pieces of meat.

I actually read that; as a example of applying the Joint Operational Planning Process in a fictitious scenario, it was quite good, and much better than the usual. It was also far more entertaining than most...

Mostly it's humor and marketing, but I think it's also a way to get around the "Political Correctness" swamp by targeting a non-existent/already dead/clearly-evil opponent. (Though there was a local problem/issue with the selling of "ethnically identifiable" terrorist zombie target sheets last year. It was in the news for at least a week or so...)

I don't think even the PETA folk have any reason to complain, where they'd probably be up in arms for using werewolves and other lycanthropes. So far at least, no one seems to have seen the need to create an ASPCZ.
