Shield 9mm Or Others For CC

I am thinking of getting a new smaller pistol for CC in 9mm. Carry would be IWB, wearing jeans or shorts and a T shirt. Narrowed the field down to 3, Shield, Ruger SR9C, or a Glock 26. I know that some conceal better than others so I would like opinions on what to choose for this application.

For year around carry I would say the G26, if you wanted something for Summer only I would add the Shield into the discussion. I've never been a big fan of the Ruger semi's. It ultimately depends on what is comfortable for you. The G26 is a little longer than the Shield, but carrying IWB it won't matter. The Shield has a longer grip but the Glock is wider and a little heavier but has a higher capacity. I would opt for the higher capacity and shorter, easier to conceal grip of the Glock personally. I carry IWB all the time and other than the really warm months don't notice the difference between the two, even when it's hot there isn't a problem with the Glock. You can also carry G19 or G17 mags for backup with the 26.
My normal EDC is a Glock 32 by the way.

I went through a similar process and one the big factors for me choosing the Shield was price. It was significantly less the the other ones. I also liked the single stack for conceal-ability, compared to the double stacks.

When I was trying to pick a pocket gun the concealability of a single stack was definitely the way to go, but for IWB carry I have never seen an advantage. For myself I've found the choice of holster made more of a difference than the gun.

I have both the Shield and the SR9c; my son has a G26. The major difference is that the Shield is narrower than the other two. My SR9c is a terrific pistol -- accurate, reliable and easy to shoot, but the Shield has the same characteristics and is less bulky and easier to carry (in my Crossbreed Super Tuck). Anyway, there are no bad choices in your three options -- Good Luck!

Have both a Shield and a G26. I carry IWB and the slimmer profile of my Shield makes it easier and more comfortable for me. Both are great guns however.

Would think any you listed would be fine. More depends on whether you want a single stack or a double stack for primary carry. There are pros and cons to each type and various carry situations crop up where one type may work better than the other type.

I can not imagine having only one carry piece if for nothing else in case the primary has to go in to the shop or something. So I split the difference and usually carry a double stack 45 in the form of a 30S then there are those times when a smaller/thinner piece is called for. For instance when I need to use a smart carry holster, then I choose the single stack in 45 which is also striker fired and is very similar in size and weight as the Shield. Do feel I benefit in having both types available to me to choose from.

Need to decide how much capacity you want/need. Im fine with 8+1 and a reload. Others arent. Interesting though because I bet a lot of double stack guys dont carry a reload but the single stack crowd does.

If you already have a G19, I would opt for the Shield. I have both those firearms and it's an excellent combination.

Another +1 for the Shield is it shoots like a bigger gun than it is. Recoil isnt bad and its pretty accurate. An SR9C to me isnt a heck of a lot smaller than a Glock 19.

Agreed. This is my combo, as well. Only carry the G19 in cooler months, when I'm wearing more clothes. And still use my Shield a vast majority of the time, regardless. So easy to carry and conceal.

Remember...get what is most easy and comfortable for you to carry (nothing will likely be 100% cozy). If you aren't happy, you won't carry and that defeats the purpose all together.

This about sums up my opinion. The Shield is a great carry gun due to its narrow profile and it is a terrific gun.

I also have a Ruger SR40c in my carry rotation but it is heavier than the Shield.

For pocket carry the Shield works for me if it is jacket weather.

can't go wrong with either but I would say Shield is a hands down winner for CCW. Glock is just toooooo thick UNLESS you typically wear more loose fitting clothing. IMHO most "modern fit" jeans will conceal a Shield a lot better. Winter carry I guess the Glock will be no problem but the Shield is good all year round. If you live in a really warm climate you might even consider something even smaller like the BG380

Prior to the Shield, my first and only Smith and Wesson was the 15-22, and I bought it because it was reported to be the best of the best .22LR AR-15s, not anything to do with S&W. I bought the Shield because of the reputation and features of CCW usage , and let me say, it is quite possibly the perfect CCW pistol... I mean, I love other brands, I like other things and styles, this is just perfect.

I and you and others would quite probably be happy with several other pistols for CCW; however, I'm extremely satisfied and happy with the Shield.

check out the holsters from OverWatch holsters if you opt for the Shield. I got the Treadstone model, and couldn't be happier. gun just disappears IWB, and you can barely feel it's there.

I've owned a Glock 26 since they are first introduced. It was a great gun when it was introduced. Still is. But mine is living in semi retirement, having been replaced with a Shield.

The main reason I got the Shield was because I'd be able to Front Pocket carry. If I were ONLY going to carry IWB, my G26 (or G19) would get more carry time. I shoot all three equally well and have no problem comfortably concealing either of the Glocks IWB.
