Which S&W Revolver Do You Carry Most?

About 60% of the time I carry a S&W 640 Pro Series. The rest of the time is split fairly evenly between a Ruger 380 LCP and a Colt 1911 CCO in .45 ACP.

Revolver 100% in the form of my 642 as a BUG and a semi 100% in the form of my Shorty 45 MK2 as a primary, until I got my snubbie M10 which has been carried 100% when at home for the last 4 days.

The 642 is mostly carried in a pocket with a holster, the Shorty and m10 are carried IWB.

Thinking the m10 will replace the Shorty as my main belt gun since the Shorty is way more collectible.

I agree with 357-RevolverGuy, S&W needs to bring back the snubbie K's.

I find myself carrying my S&W New Model Bodyguard 38 most of the time. I know most on here dont like them but the more I carry and shoot it, the more I really like it. Its hot here during the summer and its light enough that I can drop it in my shorts pocket.

The rest of the time I carry my Shield in 9mm.

Either a 442 or Model 38 100%. I don't have a "rotation" and believe, quite firmly, that carrying a gun that has the same operating platform all the time is key in a life threatening situation. I'm not dictating what others should do. My preference, which is based on real world experience as an LEO, includes more than one instance of using deadly force in the line of duty.

If I were to switch to an auto I'd drop the revolver for carry only after several range trips to get comfortable.

UPDATE: Picked up a no-lock 340M&P from my LGS b/c of the light weight and front sight. My shooting improved so this has become my EDC.

2017 Update: Picked up a no-lock 340PD and replaced the 340M&P a month ago for EDC. Worsening hip & back problems made the switch necessary. 340M&P sold to another LEO on this Forum.

I usually carry a semi-auto, either a Kahr P380 or Kimber Solo or Kimber Super Carry Ultra+; however, when on my farm or hunting I carry a Model 696 in .44 special. It is a great package, small/light enough to carry all day and potent enough for any "varmints" I find on the farm.

I agree with Old cop. I don't think a carry "rotation" is a good idea. I carry a commander size 1911. If I carried a revolver it would be my 3" 65.

Most of the time it is 640, but am thinking about buying a 642.

When conceal carrying, 99% of the time is a Volkmann 1911 in a Milt Sparks Axiom OWB holster:

When necessary, or when carrying the 1911 isn't appropriate, it is a Sig P938 in a pocket or belly band.

For field carry it is my Ruger Alaskan in a Simply Rugged pancake or my latest edition, a 625 PC.

This is mine. Model 38-2 and our own Snubbyfan on the waistband holster

I have a Silver Tyler T on the way from Ebay for my 638 to go with the bonded ivory altamont grip panels it currently wears. It cost me $55! It will look sweet and make the gun handle considerably better. I really like the Tyler Ts on J Frames because they allow me to get all my fingers on the grip while using a short grip. My Eagle secret service grips leave my pinky dangling.

None right now there too valuable. I did ccw my new m58 but it's not offered anymore. I ccw my cz 82 for right now. I'm going to dust off my norc 1911 tonight. It's time to pack a good one. She's a low budget race gun I built.

I'm new to CCW as I just got my license.

My carry guns are

1. Ruger LCR 357 -- using 38 and 38+p
2. M60 3" - kind of heavy. I figured I'd use it for hiking probably in a belt pack. Also in the car.
3. S&W 31-1 -- with buffalo bore WC and RNFP

I also have a 642 I may consider and a 242Ti (7 shot L centennial).

I can only have 3 on my permit, and the first three above are currently on the permit. I may just stick with them for a while.

The Ruger will be my primary pocket gun.
Please explain the "3 on my permit".

For 21 years the only hand gun I owned was/still have it is my 640 38spl and for a while carried it in a small fanny pack in front. I had cut a piece of foam in the shape of the fanny pack and cut out for the j-frame to secure it and keep it from printing. I got away from it for more than a decade until I got my NAA Wasp in January, carry it every day. About 2 months ago I got my Kangaroo Carry holster and nearly every day I carry both the Wasp in my pocket and my 640 in the KC holster, it works well for me. I will move to a 640 Pro Series for the sights and 357 option when my LGS gets one or when I get tired of waiting. It will go in the KC holster. Depending on a few variables the 640spl might be for sale then, maybe not.

Stay safe, John
