M&P auto's

Not to throw gasoline on the fire :) but I have heard Brits call a semi-automatic pistol an 'automatic', as in calling a Hi Power a 'Browning Automatic Pistol'.

Okay, my undies are not in a bundle but let's review the reason to not call a semi-auto weapon an automatic:

Automatic weapons are reserved for the military. They are designed to kill as many enemy targets as possible as fast as possible.

Semi-automatic weapons, or guns which would be preferable for civilians, are designed for ease of use and speed of loading.

Calling our semi-autos 'automatic rifles' portrays a terrifying image to a large number of unknowledgeable people.

Therefore, I believe it is more beneficial for us to not use the term 'automatic' unless the gun is actually automatic. Similar in concept to calling the EBR or MSR an assault rifle.

It makes sense to me, but then I did just get a nasty concussion the other day and my world is swimming around me.....
