I don't know what's going on, but lately I've been finding somewhat rare Smith & Wesson's for sale, locally. In the last two months, I picked up a nice model 28, a mint model 63, and today a 337 PD. This 337 isn't perfect. It appears to have been carried a lot and shot a little. There's wear on the sharp edges at the muzzle and under the trigger guard. The most apparent wear is on the the rubber grips. That is all fine with me, because now I won't be afraid of screwing it up when I'm carrying it, which I plan to do often.

Since I'm sure some of you are curious, the price was $551.20 out the door, at a local gun shop ($520 + 6% MI sales tax). Not bad, in my opinion for a pre-lock example.

To all who own one of these gems (or a 342 for that matter), what is your favorite self-defense ammo?

I bought a 337ti with factory wood grips inner & outer box that had never been fired or carried just stored. I paid considerably more than what you got yours for. What you paid is a great price to me & I know you'll enjoy carrying it. Your ti cylinder looks to be in great shape. They have to be cleaned gently so as not to remove the protective coating. I don't carry mine much I usually carry my 340pd (no lock) also but I have shot the 337 & it is accurate with a smooth da pull & a light crisp sa pull.

I have a 337 ti that I traded for five or six years ago. It is my most carried revolver. The lack of the IL in this ultra light revolver is a feature I am happy about. I mostly use Winchester Ranger 130 GR SXT +P in mine. I had the hammer spur removed and a Big Dot front sight installed. It is so light that when I carry it in a ankle rig, I hardly notice it...I consider it a permanent keeper.

I picked up a 337ti a couple of years back and talked the shop down to $525.00. It is in perfect shape and didn't look like it had been carried or shot much. I have shot it a couple of times and it is a nice shooter for being so light.

Since it was in such nice shape I also purchased an original box for it from someone on this forum. I now need to find the lock with keys for it and I will be good to go!

Enjoy it. They are really great pistols.

ammo for 337PD

I like the Buffalo Bore 20C low flash standard pressure.

The 158gr Keith-style LSWHP at 850 fps from a snubbie is just a bit shy of the old "FBI load" for .38 spl. It gives 19" of penetration in gelatin and if I recall was what finally ended the famous 'Miami shootout".

Recoil is moderate - manageable for experienced shooters.

This load was highly regarded among LE back when .38 SPL was what they carried and it put a lot of bad guys underground.

Buffalo Bore 20D actually is exactly the old load at 1000 fps but recoil in the 337PD is pretty harsh.
