By the title I mean the gun that you're really glad you decided to buy. The 64-3 I picked up last week is definitely a front runner for me. After another range session I can't remember having as much fun; it's accurate, has a great action, shoots to poa with both my favorite plinkers (130gr fmj) as well as defense loads (Gold Dots 135) and leaves me grinning.

In 1977, when I was 18 years old, and had my CT Pistol Permit, my parents went to the gun shop with me to purchase my first centerfire handgun, a spanking new, 6 inch 28-2. That gun sparked the flame that has about led to financial ruin....:)

Thats a good looking 64. I can't wait until my snubbie arrives next week.

Your parents took you to buy your first handgun? Man some kids have all the luck!

It's a tough choice but I will have to agree on the Model 64. I go back and forth in my mind between the 3 or 4 inch model. They are the perfect gun for home defense and just plain fun to shoot. I just got back from the range where I again bonded with my 2 inch 64. It's a hard life.

Happiest purchase. Can I pick two

S&W M&P Shield in 9mm -- finally found a sweet EDC.

Ruger Single Six three screw in 22L, LR, and mag cylinder. DID NOT upgrade to transfer bar and that doubled the value of the 40 year old gun!

Probably my pre war 5" 38/44 tricked out by King with adjustable rear sight, reflector ramp front sight W/Red post,Humpback Hammer and full action job.

You want just ONE? Can't do it -- but I could list four.

1) My first new M41 in the box [1983]

2) M586 (LNIB) with 2-1/2" barrel [2012]

3) M629 with 7-1/2" barrel and unfluted cylinder [2012]

4) M27-2 with 5" barrel and Patridge front sight, cosmetically challenged (reblued) but excellent mechanical condition [2014]

My favorites: S&W model 34 4"bbl, RB Kitgun 1970 and my S&W model 60 2" RB from 1984. They've been with me a long time and will be to the end.

I guess this would be the one that I'm really glad I decided to buy because at the time I did not really know what it was but only that I really liked it. It was LNIB and it fit a general criteria of mine at the time that any nice original blue S&W was probably always worth at least X amount. The seller wanted X amount and so it came home with me. Now that I better understand what it is, the interesting engineering behind it, and that it's relatively desirable I am very happy I bought it.

Look closely at the speed loaders for the model #.

I always wanted a k frame 8 3/8 barrel in .38. Found a good deal on 14-3. Its very easy to shoot well and I like it at the range.

Mine was Dec 1983 and I was 15 and we were coming back through rural Georgia and had stopped at a hardees for lunch and my dad had gotten a Sunday paper and there was an advert for a local gunship and he had an hk91 listed for 500.00 so we went over to the shop and it was closed, but it had a phone number in the window and my dad called it from a pay phone and the owner came and my dad paid with a check. And it was the greatest Christmas present ever. Sold it to my brother in 91 when I needed the money and he sold it later along with an sp89 to Richard Jewel after he got his settlement for being wrongly accused of being the Olympic bomber. True story.

Quite a few Smith & Wesson's have made me smile for different reasons. The 64 police trade in surprised the heck out of me. Most I smiled when shooting was the 25-2, though. Of course, smiling behind a Model 14-3 had become second nature by then.

Re: OP. My happiest purchase? There have been many rifles, shotguns, pistols that when purchased gave me great happiness. But, after a while, some of those firearms were just not so exciting. There are a few that have stayed with me, that have and continue to give great happiness to me. I have had a lot of pleasure owning a little 18-3 that I bought one Sunday afternoon at a gunshow in Albany, Ga. The seller only wanted cash. So I sold a nice M-98 and a few odds and ends and drove down to Thomasville to make the purchase. It is my most used, most enjoyed, most appreciated pistol. If circumstances necessitated my selling all my beloved 03, 03-A3, M-1 Garand rifles and S&W pistols, I would find some way to keep the 18-3.
