New to the M&P 15-22

I'm not sure why you would want to mount AR mags to your 15-22. Even if AR15 magazines fit, they wouldn't do any good. 22lr rounds are much smaller in diameter and length than 5.56/.223 and the magazine wouldn't retain them. If you have a 22lr dedicated AR15, Boonie Packer makes an adapter to go in the mag well that allows you to use 15-22 magazines.

I use Black Dog mags in my dedicated DPMS .22 lr and S&W mags in my 15-22's .....just seems to work better with the parts they were designed for rather than adapters ... not a bit of hassle when shooting as they are obviously different.
Back to the original question, buy ammo and magazines....shoot the beans out of the rifle and then determine if you want to spend your cash on acessories and what kind or more ammo to have fun. Also remember anything you hang on the rifle will add weight.

I don't have a dedicated 22lr AR, but all of the reading I've done says that everyone is very happy with the Boonie Packer adapter and that the 15-22 magazines are breferable to the Black Dog. If you have a SIG 522as well, you have built in commonality. If you have a 15-22 and a 22 AR, the Boonie Packer adapter gives you commonality. I wasn't bad mouthing the Black Dog mags, only parroting the very positive things I have read.
