I got the flu in November 1967, going onboard the Big E after Nuke school. It was brutal, but fortunately, the 125 degree engine room temp took the chill out of me.

Never got the flu again, hardly ever even got much of a cold. However, I'm thinking my advancing years might be bad news if that little virus gets ahold of me.

Forgot to mention never got the vaccination, just depended on vodka.

The vaccine is made from last years strain. It would seem useless to get it but...there is still plenty of that strain floating around and you will be protected. If you get the shot and get this years strain you will still get sick but no where near as bad as if you hadn't got the shot. Also, if you never had the shot before sometimes it can make you feel bad for a day or two but nothing like getting the flu. My response...definitely get it.

Refuse to get a flu shot, have never had a flu shot and have never had the flu. Yea, I get a cold on occasion but have never had the flu.
Think it helps that I have no children running around so they're not bringing anything home from those virus infested things called a school!

Flu is no joke

Estimating Seasonal Influenza-Associated Deaths in the United States: CDC Study Confirms Variability of Flu | Seasonal Influenza (Flu) | CDC
"CDC estimates that from the 1976-1977 season to the 2006-2007 flu season, flu-associated deaths ranged from a low of about 3,000 to a high of about 49,000 people." The CDC goes on to say that "... 80 percent of cumulative deaths had occurred in people 65 or older."

I think that applies to a large % of us wheel gun totin' oldsters.

I actually got the flu some years ago and it took me 2 weeks to get back on my feet. Since then, I've gotten the shot every year, with no recurrence. Just sayin'...

Never had a flu shot and I've never had the flu. I just make sure I have a glass of Whiskey every night. No flu virus could live in my bloodstream.:o
BTW. I turned 50 (17 years ago)

Haven't had a flu shot in well over 40 years, don't see much need to have one now.

Every year. I'm 77, with bronchiectasis and COPD. I'm classified as high risk, and I prefer to minimize my chances of shuffling off this mortal thingamajig as long as possible.

Costs me nothing and can't hurt--why not go for it?

I paid for the shingles shot in September too. I had a mercifully fairly light case on my head and face the first of last year, and definitely don't want to go through that again.

I started getting the flu shot about 15 years ago. Noted that I didn't get any colds either, that year. Askeed the doctor about it and he said it was probably because the shot increased my overall immune response. I'm 81 and one of the things I dont want is the flu; this year's version is only about 67% effective, since they made a bad guess on what flu strains would be around this year. 67% is a lot better than 0%, so I get the shot. Had the pneumonia shot two years ago too; it lasts 4 years they tell me.

Flu shots always worked for me. Every time I took one I'd get a terrible case of the Flu. :( Quit taking them years ago and haven't had the flu since.

I got my first and only flu shot back in the 60's and it worked great, I had the flu a few day's later, I was out of work for a week, I haven't had a shot or the flu since. :)

This is what happened to me two years ago. I never had the flu, but decided to get the shot. About four weeks later, bam I got the flu. It was my first time getting the shot and my first time getting the flu. Have not got the shot since or the flu. :D

Have gotten them every year. The years I'm gotten the flu, it was always a new strain, not in the shot profile. As a stage 4 cancer guy, whatever I can prevent, I will. Can't get the opportunity to die of cancer if something else gets me first!

I had my last flu shot in 1999 and I have not had the flu since. I used to get it at least once a year when I took those blamed shots.

The late Realtor Bob cautioned against flu shots. He claimed that they were chock full of mind control nannites and allowed the government to stop your heart via satellite. This tied in somehow with the Illuminati and shape shifting reptoids...or were they reptilians... Anyway, the Queen of England is their leader, and she eats babies and lives on human blood.

Seemed reasonable enough.
