Paper or plastic? With or without?

Is your "Carry" license made of plastic, similiar to your drivers license, or is it paper? Do you have to list weapons you have qualified with or are going to carry?

In Kentucky, our license is similiar to a drivers license....plastic, picture, name, address, birth date, license number, expire date and address. We do not have to list weapons on our CDWL. These are generated by the State Police.

In North Carolina, our licenses are issued by the sheriffs' offices in our county of residence, but are of course good throughout the state, even if we move. We renew every five years. Mine came laminated, but I live in a populous county with a sheriff's office that has plenty of resources. I don't know if all sheriffs' offices are able to do it this way; maybe some other Tar Heels can throw in on that.

Otherwise, they're plain vanilla. No pictures, and no list of weapons. Being a license holder does allow me to purchase handguns without having to apply for a pistol permit every time, which is a nice benefit.

Plastic card with my drivers license picture on it. Firearms owned are listed on the back of the card and the second card.

County judge has to sign (approve) the permit. The judges secretary or a Civil officer will take care of the paper work.

In MY county I am allowed 16 hand guns of any kind and I can carry any one I want. It must be concealed.

Also in My county I get a purchase coupon, so if I walk into a gunshop, I can leave with the firearm. There are only 2 counties that do that in this state. The rest, you take the invoice for the gun and get it on the permit. Once that is done, they get the purchase coupon to pick up the gun.

just got my WI card which was issued by the state, plastic with my general info but no photo and no gun listing (no strict qualification needed at the class). It's good for 5 years then renewable with a payment, actually got my card in less than 2 weeks from when i sent in my paperwork.

Same in Bucks Co Pa. Laminated, no list. When I first got mine in 2001 it was just a piece of paper. The sheriff photocopied your DL and cut out your picture to paste on your LCF.

Philadelphia used to be like a drivers license. In fact it could be mistaken for a police officer ID card.

Florida: Plastic with DL type photo. Issued by the State Department of Agriculture. Good for 7 years, no weapons listed. Reciprocal agreements, last time I looked, with 35 states.

Plastic without weapons here. But I voted I do not need a license. In the state of Wyoming, if you can legally own a gun, you can carry here without a permit. I have a permit so I can carry in other peoples states that aren't as free.

Ohio's CCW is like Kentucky's, Plastic with a photo and without a weapon listed. However Ohio's certification for retired LEOs is specific to revolver or automatic. If you want to carry both you have to Qualify for both and get separate I.D.s. I believe these persons still qualify for LEO status and can carry in all the LEO only locations (and drink while armed, off duty of course). Licensed civilians can carry but not consume is restaurants & bars. Ivan

OURS ARE SIMILAR IN THE STATE OF RI. THEY CARRY A FINGERPRINT AND A SIGNATURE AS WELL. YOU CAN CARRY ANY CALIBER WEAPON BELOW THAT WHICH YOU QUALIFY WITH--WHICH IS ALSO NOTED .……..

Somebody. Jump in if I'm mistaken , but I think listing specific weapons by S/n on the physical Lic is just an NY thing. In general there would be an implied requirement that one be legally in posesion of said weapon(s) , which may or may not involve a seperate paper trail and/ or data base in a particular state.

Oklahoma has plastic cards. The card lists the "type" of weapon the carrier is approved to carry. Oklahoma recognizes 3 types of handguns; derringers, revolvers and semi automatics. It you quality with a derringer, that is all you are approved to carry. If you qualify with a revolver, you are approved for derringer or revolver. If you qualify with a semi auto, you can carry any of the three.

In Washington State it's a paper card, which you can have laminated if you like. No photo. No list of handguns.

I second what LedFowl said. In my case I don't need a CPL since I'm a RLEO, but if I did I'd want one made the cheapest way possible...paper is cheap...plastic is not so cheap.

In NJ we don't need a license, just a painful process to get a handgun purchase permit.

I'm in Gaston Co., North Carolina and mine was paper but laminated after I signed it. It has no weapons listed or picture. Renewed every 5 years.

Difficult to answer accurately given the choices. I don't need a license to carry, only to conceal. My CPL merely allows one more carry option, concealed, but does not require it. It is a paper license but it's laminated with plastic. It's a good stiffness for carding a door if you're locked out.

Whether they are laminated or not is up to the issuing agency. My county does not, nor does my local PD.
