Explain Your User Name

Carp River

Carp River is a crystal clear stream that runs out of the Yellow Dog Plains water shed. I has some of the best rainbow trout fishing. I love the place so it's so use it for my screen name.

Mine was given to me by my parents. You might find me on other forums as Slowpokebill...that comes from my old autocross days. I like to think my buddies were being sarcastic but my times say other wise.

had and enjoyed a Ranger boat for a few years (esp when living in SC where it could be used year round); and am a fan of Matt Kenseth.

While i dont own the boat anymore and Kenseth changed #s, just getting too old to start revising my user name for forums..... easier to find and stick with one, for the old memory lol

Mine is my other passion, hot rods. I have a 42 Chevy Aerosedan with a 455 Olds and Turbo 400, it has a '74 Nova front and rear suspension. It does 0-60 in 4.8 seconds. My deceased dad and I made a 12 hour drive to pick it up in a field near Yreka California and it was a basket case. It has been done almost exclusively been done with my own hands and on a very small budget, lots left to do. Hence my user name

A new Chevy body style for '42 was the Aerosedan, a quasi-futuristic two-door fastback. The design was introduced the year before in the Cadillac, Buick, Pontiac, and Olds lines, then passed down to Chevy the following season.

Malpaso is an area (the old Victorine Ranch) back home that my maternal great-grandfather used to own. It includes Malpaso canyon, creek and beach. He sold part of it to Clint Eastwood in the early 60's and he named his production company after it.

A Wildlifer is a term for a graduate of Humboldt State University's undergraduate wildlife program.

I love to hunt, with pre 64 Model 70 Winchester Rifles. Got the affliction from my Dad who got it from Jack O'Connor. And yes it is a 270 Win.

I could have used my life long nick name, Ag. Short for agate, in football guys accused me of being as tough to move as a rock, the hardest rock was agate. When young I also used agate marbles for shooters. You young guys go to wikipedia for more info. And I still have marbles from the day, so you folks that wonder, nope I didn't lose my marbles. Some but not all.

If I'm in my old home town and see someone from back in the day it is hello Ag. None of them remember my name.

Bit of a weird story.

In the Valley of Kidron, outside the walls of the Old City of Jerusalem, stands a monument known as "Absalom's Tomb" (although it has now been dated to the 1st century AD, way after the biblical figure's time). In the early 1990s I spent some time in Israel with an archaeology nerd exploring around there, and that structure somehow fascinated me (see photo).
This was right after the Israeli-Palestinian peace accords, things were pretty relaxed security-wise, and as a Westerner you could move around pretty freely in all parts of the city and the West bank.

Right after I got back, we got the first individual PCs on our desks at work. So the tech guy is setting things up for me and asks me for a "user name".
Me "What's a user name?"
Tech guy "Just any name that's not your name, pick some name that's a bit unusual so you can remember it easily."
Since I'm still mentally processing all the impressions from the Israel trip, somehow "Absalom!" pops out.
And the rest is history. I've grown fond of it and still use it as a user name where it's not security-critical and periodic changes aren't required.
