Model 53 in excellent condition.
Box and paperwork.
4 inch barrel.
22 lr inserts.
22 lr cylinder.
Separate 6 inch barrel.
Separate 8 3/8 inch barrel.

What is a fair price for all this?
Thanks.

Which barrel length does the box suggest it was shipped with? Is it a 4-screw or 3-screw frame? Is the extra cylinder numbered to the gun? You didn't mention target hammer or trigger, red ramp front sight or white outline rear sight? Orig. 4 inch guns are harder to find. In ANIB condition, $1850 to $2500 - an orig. 4 inch with all the goodies would be at the higher end of the range.

The writing on the box says it is a 4 inch barrel.

BLACK blade rear site and BLACK ramp front sight.

3 screw

The 22 lr cylinder is NOT numbered to the gun.

Didn't get info on target hammer and trigger.

Ya know, there was the day, about 22 years ago, when I found one. It was a 6" gun with both cylinders, the box, and 11 inserts. One missing, and I don't care. So I asked my buddy who was at the show with me if he'd help me tote the mess out to the car. He said I was out of my mind, paying $700 for a 22. But he wanted to see why I was so crazy. And then he saw the 10 full boxes of ammo the guy tossed into the deal. Still not impressed. Turns out the gun was free, the ammo was worth the $700. :D

Not sure why anyone would want another barrel. I'm sure no one in his right mind would want a 4" gun. Loud enough with a 6".

The Jet is a reloaders gun. I guess you could shoot factory ammo only, but it would be really expensive and you'd spend your days seeking ammo.

Thanks for all the help. Decisions to make.

I have always liked S&W. Have 2 Model 53's, and do not know about the 22 L.R. cylinder being numbered to the revolver. Perhaps if the cylinder was shipped from the factory with the gun it may be so. Mine both have the 22 cylinder from S&W, and fitted at the factory, but they are not numbered. One is a 4 screw, the other is 3 screw. Both are full Target except 3 screw does not have RR front, 8 3/8" barrels. It would be nice to know if S&W did this. Have all inserts, bore mops not original, and do not have Red Tags.

, bore mops not original,

Good luck finding those! They used standard "bore" mops, the same as K22s so there are millions of those around. But the cylinder mop, the tapered one made to the cartridge dimensions, is the tough one. Some place lost in the debris I call a gun room is the sealed set from about 1961 for mine.

Finding it is one of those projects I never get around to. Or maybe I did and its just in the box where it belongs. But I can't go from one room to the next and remember what I was doing. The only way to find it is write a note and hold it while I get up to look. I can only image a few dozen places it could be. Just glancing at the plastic bag isn't enough, you've got to really look to realize its the tapered one.
