Richard...the pattern on the side plate of the ".357" is the only one like it I have seen. It is very unusual.

This Claus Willig engraved model 19 is the most ornately engraved/inlaid gun that I own and one of my favorites.

The side plate on my Jarvis engraved 3 1/2 two-tone is also rather unusual but not nearly as ornate as the Willig engraved gun.

I think that these are the photos you were talking about? At least one of these (the blued one) was confirmed to be engraved by Russ Smith. The engravers on the pintos have not been confirmed, but several knowledgeable sources have postulated Russ Smith, Harry Jarvis, or even Virginia LeBlanc.

What awesome skills these engravers have. I too can't even envision what it take to complete such a task. Let me ask these 3 questions about the Claus Willig engraved model 19, if I may.

1. What would that Model 19 be work today in perfect condition without the engraving?

2. If you had to throw a number at what that engraving would cost today?

3. Finally, what value do you place on it today as engraved?

Just curious and envious. A beautiful collection. I see more beauty in these fine guns than I guess others see in a Rembrant.

Being new to Smith & Wesson's I have the same questions. I'm looking at my 586 and my model 10 (no dash) and am wondering if it would be worth having them engraved.
