how many of you have never owned a new S&W Revolver?

I'm the same way. I have always wanted a model 27 and one day I hope to have one but they are expensive. I have never bought a new $&W revolver. The old ones are plentiful and cheaper.

My last new one (as in walked into a gun store, picked one from the case) was probably 25 years ago. May have bought a few that someone else bought new and stored, but most are definitely used used :).

My first was the model 18 back when I turned 21, and my last was the model 60LS purchased a couple of years ago. All the guns through all the years in between have been used.

I prefer used ones with history & like to know about the previous owners...
My only new one was a Nightguard that I foolishly traded off!

Three new
One new old stock
One used
One vintage used

All have been great regardless of era.

I have never bought a brand new S&W. I have although owned many. Seems I can find newer condition ones almost any time, and I am going to shoot it, so "new" is pretty meaningless to me. Great condition is very meaningful.

NEW

27-2 28-2.jpg

I paid $145 out the door for my 28-2 in Virginia in 1974 it was new and I still have it.
I think I had a new 57 in 1977 but am not sure.
The rest were all pre owned.

In 1972 I made $288 a month as an E1 USN boot camp.
A gallon of milk was about $2
A new VW bug was $2000.

Today a 28-2 is going for about $600 if in VG condition.
I wouldn't sell mine for any price. It was my first Smith and it will go to the boys. I picked up another one last year for $450 OTD and was lucky to find it.

I thought a lot before spending my $145 back then. After all it was about two weeks pay for me.

About 20 years ago I bought a Glock 19 used for $400 it now is a $400 used G 19 and as ugly as when I got it.
We all make choices. Plastic is not at the top of my list. A lock on my revolver isn't either but I have three with them.

I bought a BNIB 2010 model 638-3 last year for $420 shipped, and this past xmas, secret Santa (sshhhhhh) bought me a used LNIB 1999 model 649-3 (oh, $375 OTD)

I love them both, although the 649 is a beast to shoot with .357 mag's in it!

Bought an unfired 15-3 (no box or accessories) from an estate consignment, but it was pre-owned if not used.

The others, including the one I've carried daily for sixteen years or so, were used.

I always worked in underpaid service jobs--mostly mental health of one kind or another--and couldn't afford new ones. Now in retirement I can't afford used ones, but I'm content with the ones I still have.
