how many of you have never owned a new S&W Revolver?

I've bought a few new S&W revolvers, bought a 642 with a lock and had some problems with it, never again if it has a lock.

Some people don't mind the lock and that's fine, the're just not for me.

If I had to buy new, Ruger makes fine guns too.

I've never bought a brand new S&W.

The only new ones I would want now would be the .460 or .500, but that's not likely any time soon.

And a NIB, 3.5" 27-2 will be beyond what I'm willing to pay!

I've owned a few new and a few used ones. My fist S&W was a used 6" Model 66 I bought in the mid 80s. My first new S&W was a 2 1/2" Model 19 I got in the late 80s. Both are long gone, replaced by some other revolver or rifle I "needed" at the time. My most recent was a Model 340 that I got new at a local dealer his past year.

I don't really prefer new or used, as long as I can find a model that will fill a perceived need or want, that's all that matters. I really like S&W's warranty and have had to use it on a couple of new revolvers. And they were kind enough to extend this to a couple of used revolvers that had issues also. I also gladly paid, very little, for a repair on a used 629. No MIM or other scarey stuff in that one, but it broke anyways. I did manage to find a used 2 1/2" Model 19 to replace the sorely missed one I never should have sold.....

I've owned both new ones, and (mostly) older models. I have an affinity for the older ones for a multitude of reasons, but I am very interested in several of their new production pieces, and will most likely make several purchases.

Since I try to avoid the ILS. The majority of mine were used. But, I have bought some new too. It just depends on what it is. I'm contemplating buying another new one soon.

I think the od means "newer production". (the oddly shaped cylinder release era post 2000)

owned a 629 of that era. wasn't great, but wasn't bad. trigger did NOT feel like the older era (early 90s) 629 I had owned.

If that's the case, I recently bought two that I suppose are "newer production." I got both a 642-2 for my wife and a 442-1 for myself. But they were both purchased as "used."

I also had a Model 21 "Thunder Ranch" 44 Special that had a lock a couple of years ago. Nice gun, but it too was purchased used.

OUT OF THE 20 OR SO THAT I HAVE OWNED, ONLY 3 WERE PURCHASED NEW---A 3" 629. A 642-1, AND A NEW 4" 10 SHOT, 617. ONLY THE 617 HAS THE IL. I PREFER CLEAN USED S&Ws TO NEW ONES---ESP WITH THE ILs, AND THE OBVIOUS LACK OF GOOD QUALITY CONTROL, NOWADAYS…...……..

Most of the 20 or so I have owned were bought new. The first was a model 19 in 1971. I am through buying Smith and Wessons, but have purchased 4 new glocks and 2 new CZ's.

Everything I have bought new became 'used'........so now I start with used:D

Seems there is always a lure to 'older' revolvers to me..........ooops wait, I did buy my 1911 E Series 45 new! Otherwise currently have a 'used' 625JM and a 'used' 686-3 357:)......at one time these were sold 'new' LOL

Karl

Out of the 25 or so that I have now and the 10 or so I have traded or sold, the only one I bought new is a 627 UDR (the reintroduction). Everything else has been used.

A 686-3 new 02/18/93. Then a 65LS in 03-28-1994 followed by a 29 8-3/8" Classic , a 5906 9MM , and a 637PC last year. Only 1 w/ a lock. We/I love S&W's and you all come up with some real American Made classic beauties! I'd have an example of every S&W .357 ever made given the dough $...

I bought my first new S&W revolver about 1984. I think. Somewhere around then...

New don't happen as often as used, never really cared much. 1870s through 2015, it just depends on the individual revolver. (My oldest functional revolver was built 1859-1860ish. Little Allen Wheelock .22)

Bought 1 new Dan Wesson .44 years ago, everything else bought or traded for is used. Also 1 new Henry .22 mag, all other long guns used.

This question is one way to find out who your buddies are, but I'll bet they won't note that you simply can't afford new.

I have both new and used, but my take is that I don't plan to buy any more new. It is too expensive and aggravating to fix them to my satisfaction, or I just don't prefer the latest production. I might be surprised, but I doubt S&W will come out with anything on the revolver side that I will see as so compelling that I have to own one.

I've never bought a new S&W. I never will buy a new S&W. I only buy S&W made in the 80's when the quality was excellent.
