how many of you have never owned a new S&W Revolver?

My only two new ones were a model 19 in1977, and a 642 I bought about 4 months ago. And about 60 used ones in between.

Recently bought a new 686-6 6" and then sold it to buy a 686-3 SS, 80's made 4" because I didn't like the round grip on the new gun. Sometimes they break the mold .... but I do have a S&W addition ... yep ...

I think the od means "newer production". (the oddly shaped cylinder release era post 2000)

owned a 629 of that era. wasn't great, but wasn't bad. trigger did NOT feel like the older era (early 90s) 629 I had owned.

Never owned a S&W revolver.....until yesterday! Broke the ice with a new 4 inch 629. Already feeling the addiction growing inside me. Lol

You picked a GREAT icebreaker!

Now you just need to find the same in a model 29!

It's not going to end, you know.

I bought my first new S&W in 1976 a model 41 5 1/2" and my second the next year it was a model 25 in 45 LC 6" regrettable I don't have either of them now. But I've made up for that. I haven't bought another new one thence, only new to me.

The only two brand spanking new S&W revolvers I have bought was my first, a 28-2 six inch in 1977, and a 586 four inch, when they were first introduced, as a duty gun. Sold that original 28-2, but still have my 586.

Quite a few used models of various flavors, some like NIB.

My most recent, as far as age, is a 629-6 four inch, MIM & lock. It also has one of the smoothest DA pulls of any Smith I own, and is one of the most accurate N frames I have, regardless of barrel length or dash number.

My most recent is a 28-2, "S"-prefix, four inch, I picked up at a gun show a couple weeks ago. Set up a target at 25 yards in the backyard, in a snow storm. Shot 24 rounds, standing on my hind legs, single action. 6 38+p 125 Rems, 6 357 125 Rems, 6 Fed 158, and 6 357 Win Silver Tips, 140 grain, I think. All hit about an inch high, using a dead on hold, and grouped in a fist sized clutter. Yea, its a keeper.

Im 60, In 1982 bought my 1st S&W a 629 6"bbl nickel finish, I gave 500 cash for, brand new and man was in LOVE, My wife at that time, stole it ran off with a boyfriend, found out later she had many. Snice then life has been a adventure and a half for me.I could truly write a epic, lol. I have bought appox 10-12 snice then, the best I can refect on. But most important now, I have a wife that to me is pure gold, Her life is taking care of kids that nobody wants, the " throw away kids ", I am sure God sent her to me, Regards Ernie

I have not owned a new style revolver and wouldn't.I am sure they are plenty durable, but there is nothing about them that appeal to me.I would rather spend half the money on a Taurus or Rossi and get the same look and feel.

This is as close as I've come, and it was made in 2005 and bought as new in the box this year.

If it were not fairly unique (#162 of 225 made), I'd have probably passed on it.

Otherwise, I prefer the pre-lock (2001) S&Ws.

I'm not greatly offended by MIM parts in general, as there is nothing wrong with the metallurgy or engineering. However I am a little offended at the accompanying slide in quality when S&W started using MIM parts around '97 or '98, as they don't take the time to remove the mold line and polish the surface. It can be can MIM part, but it should not have to look like an MIM part.

Let's see.

1974, bought my first S&W, Model 27-2 5" barrel, new
Early 1980's, bought a new 6" barrel 29-3
Fast forward to last year,
Bought a NOS 5" barrel 27-3
Bought a used 629-3
Bought a NOS 27-5, 6 1/2" barrel, blue
This year,
Bought a NOS 4" barrel 27-2
Bought a new 3" barrel 60-15 for my wife

So I guess I lean more towards new or NOS, but will also look at a nice used pistol too.

I don't know if this counts but my wife bought me a brand new Model 39 for Christmas back in the 70s. I still have it of course. I have several S&W revolvers and other S&W autos but they were all bought used.

Quite a few. My first was a Model 19-3 in the mid-70's as an I&A police officer in NJ. I bought a Model 60 and a 3" 65 new in the early 80's. In the late 80's I bought a 2" NY-1 64-4. Traded for a NIB 66-5 around 2000. Around 2007 I got a 4" HB 10-11. In the last 5 years I bought 2 642-1's and still have one. That's about it. Joe

I bought a bunch of new ones in the box from the S.F. Gun Exchange, but nothing after the early 90's.

I had enough to satisfy and by the time I was ready to buy more, post 2000 MIM guns didn't interest me.

Add the lock and the electronic rifling as opposed to the original button rifling, fergattaboutit! I shoot cast only.

Won't own a "new" version, which is good for those that don't have a preference, leaves more for them.

Never bought a new Smith, but bought a couple of un fired like new in box.model 19-4 and 27-2. I had a model 500 and I have a 29-2 in really nice shapeTHEWELSHM
