Model 10: Round or Square Butt?

Do you prefer round or square butt Model 10s? Why?

I am perhaps odd. I prefer the square butt on my model 10s (4" HB) but the round butt on my model 64s (3").

Round. Fits my hand better. I 'spect most or all folks with hands my size or smaller prefer RB. Probably most or all with larger hands prefer squareunless they want to fit the gun in a pocket.

IN GENERAL, THE ONLY LENGTH BARREL OF AN N FRAME THAT I LIKE A ROUND BUTT ON IS A 3". ON MY 4" AND LONGER K/L AND N FRAMES, I PREFER SQUARE BUTTS. BELOW ARE 2 K/L AND 2 N FRAME , 4" ROUND BUTT REVOLVERS. ALL ARE CONVERTED TO SQUARE FRAME PROFILE BY USE OF THE AHRENDS GRIPS…..

I prefer round butt in the 2, 3 and 4 inch versions. They conceal better. The 4 inch standard barrel Model 10 with round butt is quite hard to find. And, it is my favorite. Unfortunately, I have never been able to get a good one at a price I wanted to pay.

My model 13 and 629 have the round butt, my 66 is a square butt, I think that the round feels better to me, all 4" or shorter.

Round. You can always buy grips to "convert" to square butt shape.

4inch and longer, square butt. 4inch and shorter, round butt. Both for aesthetic and ease of carry reasons.

I have an M10 RB 4" tapered bbl, and it fits my big paw pretty well and balances nicely. I cut my S&W teeth on a re-reamed .38-200, so SB was the norm, but when I found this M10, it was a nice surprise. I sold the BSR for an obscene profit. ;-)

Square. I think round butt revolvers look goofy. They might be great. I don't care.

I have both SBs and RBs on my Model 10s. I prefer RBs for concealability on my 2" guns but it's not a tremendous difference. I can't even remember what this one is:

I put those stocks on there decades ago - it appears to be a round butt and maybe one of these days I'll double check. Does anyone think it's NOT a RB?

It's my second revolver purchase and it outlived the revolver that preceded it. I recall changing the stocks three or four times and selling all of the ones I didn't use at a gun show - and that includes the originals that came with the gun. Little did i know back then what an error that was.....

Interestingly, I just purchased a GORGEOUS set of original S&W square butt Magnas (wth a number on them no less!) for my SB Model 19 but if this 2" M10 is not a round butt, well, we'll see.......

RB on 2in , square on everything else.

On a 2in it just feels right the way it balances in my hand.

Actually boot grips on a square butt will conceal nicely.

Square for 4" or longer. round for shorter than 4". The 4" is a duty gun, and the square but just looks right on a duty gun. Round butt does not look right to me on a service revolver.

APOLOGIES FOR BEING UNABLE TO POST PICS.

I recently purchased my first model 10 since 1976. It's a pinned 4" heavy bbl. The grip frame is very slightly rounded on each corner, NOT the sharp squared edges as in some pics. It came with Hogue rubbers, I'm assuming it's a round grip. Can someone post a pic of a square & a round grip side by side without the grips? Just the bare frames. thanks. Also I asked before, anyone know where the sticky is for dating by serial #, when I didn't need it, it was everywhere, now that I need it, I can't find it. Ser # D8717**, THANKS in advance. It's a 10-6 btw.

4" guns.... got both....including 2 round butt L-frames; a customized 686-0 and a factory 586-? (1995/6).... Spegel's extended round butt Boot grips.

6" guns ......square butts.....w/ extended Spegel Boot grips

I prefer the square butt of my 4" 10-5. It feels right in my hand and is one of my favorite range guns.
