Model 10: Round or Square Butt?

I always preferred square butt on most everything except maybe a chief special, but when I came across the 4" model 10 (top left in photo) I had to get it. Mostly for the looks of the tapered barrel with the round butt. These are all model 10-5's except the 6" which is a post war M&P.

I think it is like grips, it is a personal preference based on hand size and feel. I really never thought about it, I just try to align the sights and roll the trigger. I guess I just like 'em both.

The OP's question is exactly what got me started accumulating different M10's and M&P's. Can't call my motley pile a 'collection'.
About a year ago, I picked up a 4" HB RB from Bud's. It was one of the Aussie surplus guns. Put a Tyler on it and it's one of my best shooters and has become one of my EDC guns.
Good luck!

I like the round butt.
The reason why is that they conceal better. They don't print through a vest or jacket as badly as the square butt does & for me they are just as easy to shoot well.
The model 10s are for carrying & using, they are a fantastic CCW six-gun & for me at least the RBs are better suited for that.

All my Model 10's have square butts. I've never come across a round butt one, at least that I can remember! I think I would prefer a round butt on a 2 or 3 inch 10, though.

I have 2 model 10-8's, both round butts, one with 3" heavy barrel and one with a 4" heavy barrel. I just prefer the way they fit my hand.

I make no effort to carry my four-inch 10-5 concealed. The square butt fits my hand better. My EDC is a round-butt J-frame but wears Pachmayr Compacs to accommodate and comfort my elderly mitts.

I like the way both round and square feel in my hands. I'm contemplating one of the Bud's police trade-ins, and since they're the exact same price, it's not making the decision on which to go with any easier!

How many RB mod. 10 were made? I don't see a lot of them @ the shows & our LGS doesn't get mod. 10s very often?
