I read a bunch of posts here that got me to thinking I better have a Bear Gun. Well it just so happened that Poulin gun auction with items from the Elmer Keith collection last week was near where I live. I managed to wander over and have a look. A four day auction 500 or more guns per day. After checking the catalog out online I went to one of the preview days. Holy cow rooms full of guns of all type and age. Quite a lot of collectible pieces but as was said elsewhere on the forum, it was a shooters auction too. Therein my plan began to take shape. Convinced by the threads, I knew I needed a Bear Gun. It just isn't safe to go into the woods without one. And maybe this was it, with the heritage of Elmer Keith cloaking the rows of tables just covered with every type of weapon imaginable, here is where I would get it. Now it's true, there is a known Bear that rips up birds feeders and such not 5 miles from my house. The state game wardens are called often enough about mountain lion sightings, and bigfoot has been seen less than half a mile from my house. I need a piece for my forays into the back 40. Back to the plan. I can see from others around me at the preview this auction will draw the big money collectors like flies on jelly. The possibility exists that if I bid on something that isn't even on their radar I might win the auction. I'm a shooter not a collector, and if it's made with a polymer frame all the better. I put my bid in on lot number 489. Picked it up today. Talking to a buddy about having him show me how to do reloads. Probably put together a few boxes of 280 gr HorNosler green tips and I will be all set for my next trek down the driveway to put out the trash.
