New Classic Line

I am still looking for a 6-1/2" but they are next to impossible to find right now. Hopefully S&W will do another production run of them soon.

I hear you. My year long search for a 6.5" 29-10 was quite frustrating. I had that model on my Wish List at Davidsons the entire time. One morning I received an E-Mail that they were in-stock. I logged onto Davidson's site as quick as I could, and they were already sold out. I don't know how many they had received, but they were gone in a matter of minutes. With that kind of demand, you would think that S&W would push a few more out the door. Most of the LGS in my area say they hardly ever see one. Do you visit GunBroker often to see if any are for sale?

I had started a thread on this forum about the difficulty in finding this model. A Forum member sent me a PM and said he saw a new one in a local shop. He even took high quality pictures of it and sent them to me. He gave it a close personal inspection as well and told me it looked pristine. So I called the shop and had it shipped to Arizona.

Hang in there and one will pop up sooner or later. Guess you could also place an order through a local dealer.

All of my 40+ year old pinned barrel revolvers are true classics. Aside from the lock, the MIM parts, the so-so finishes, the frame mounted firing pins and the inferior stocks, the new "classics" are exactly like mine.

I got a 4" in December 2013. The LGS knew I was settling for it instead of a 6.5". A week later the phone rang. I recognized the number and wondered "why would they be calling me?!?" To my amazement I was told, "Sir, you won't believe what came in today in a new shipment..." I went and got it the next morning. A friend bought the 4" model off me. I was really fortunate.

Though I still prefer the 6.5" version for the obvious reason (go ahead, make my... ) I deep down think the proportions of the 4" version are better looking. I kinda wish I had kept it.

Likewise here. In fact, the grain is outstanding imo.

I like the classic line I have the model 27 four inch excellent shooter, I just got the 586 best out of the factory trigger I have had.

That 585 is a beauty. I have a 6 incher and love it. Going for the 4 inch 29 next. I think I've just made up my mind typing this post.

I just recently bought a 29 4" and a 586 6" classic. They are really nice revolvers. Around 2007 there were a number of classics that where 3" and some special Lew Horton's. I believe I bought 5 different ones various calibers and models but all N frames.

talking about real,classics I just purchase a K22. I did consider buying a new classic but I was able to save a bout $100 and this one is in great shape.

Ps I would really like to get a 586 4".

Purchased a 586 4" classic yesterday. Cleaned, oiled, ready to shoot as soon as weather cooperates. Seems like a very nice revolver.

I know what you mean. I am definitely going to keep my 4" Model 29, but I am saving my lunch money to get the 6.5" to complete the set. I also have an older 29-2 with 8-3/8" barrel.

29 and 629 acquisition fever can quickly get out of hand!

I have a few classics. A m29-10 6 1/2" blue, m57 6" nickel, m24 6 1/2" nickel haven't shot them yet but the m58 4" in nickel I shot.

Well I guess it's a personal thing to be sure but here go's. The 21-4 factory stocks had the stock contours converge near the top into pointy diamond projections, twenty or so rounds later had blood running down from my strong side thumb, filed and sanded the pointy projected lump down and no more bleeding, replaced stocks with Hogue's anyway. 22-4, cool looking old style service grips too narrow at the top they just hurt and not enough grip to hold onto with stout loads, replaced with old S&W magna's. 24 and 25, the new style target grips no do fit me, replaced with old style S&W target stocks. The grips on the 40 seem to be made of some sort of compressed wood and is "chunking' off in the checkered area of the stocks and the glued in medallions fell out, cannot find a replacement grip yet. 586 plus stocks had the high sharp edge horn's, more blood lost, sawed em off and filed and sanded flush with the grips and problem solved, like em now. A lot of grips these days seem to be made out of some sort of laminated plywood, called "diamond wood" perhaps. Anyhoo I wish S&W would reopen their wood shop and make quality stocks for these fine revolvers, I for one think they deserve better. Ok, rant over!

I picked up a 25-13 at the gun show yesterday. It is a 2011 gun according to the seller. VERY clean gun. Am I correct in assuming that it is a classic series? Product # 150256. Now I have to start loading 45 Long Colt! Bob

Sure is. Good find too. It's getting harder and harder to find any of the newer production "classics." Every time I run into one I buy.

Interesting though that not too many others in my area seem to be interested in the line - probably a testament as to why Smith stopped the current production run?

There were about five models in my local store for the past two years, I have two of them now, and the other three are still sitting there. One by one maybe I'll snatch them all!

I have some 2000's guns and some 1950's.

The new ones are actually finished quite well where it counts. They don't look all that bad on the outside...

The original grips look okay, but are a bit lacking. That's a subjective thing including most eras. The difference is that the grips that went in the drawer were wood instead of laminate.

No need for the old gun elitism. I frankly find it tiresome.

I'll admit to being a frugal guy. There's no way I'm paying what a vintage 22/Model of 1950 commands...especially for a shooter and carry piece.
