M&P 22 Compact Good or bad?

I have the M&P 22 Compact, and am very happy with it. There has been one trip back to the homeland, as the takedown lever had gotten chewed up from frequent use. I had 4600 rounds through it at that point. Took about 3 weeks overall.

Are you able to feed pretty much any ammo through it? Regular/sub sonic/high velocity?

I just bought the M&P 22 compact yesterday.
I already own 2 40 cal. shields. On one shield I have TFO night sights and they are great. On the other I have ameriglo night sights. Love both guns.

How are your Shields shooting. I have a .40 as well and I am having a hard time hitting on target all the time at 7 yards. 3/7 are hits and the rest not even close. It shoots low-left. I created a separate forum post (on this site) regarding this issue and users have said that it's me and not the gun and gave me some tips. But I wanted to ask you what your experience has been with this gun...

Look back at post #12 for my ammo list.

I have NOT tried CCI Stingers, as I think they would be overkill, and they are too expensive. I keep those for the 10/22.

Anything ~1000 fps (except some federal as noted) seems to work.

My shields shoot great. I do have to have the front sight just a hair to the left of bore centerline. After that they are very accurate. At 7 yards I can place all shots in the x ring.

I would say that at this point the 22 compact is one of the best 22 pistols I have ever owned. I traded off my GSG 1911 22 for it. No comparison in the way the 22 compact shoots compared to the 1911 22.

I've owned MANY 22LR pistols over the years and my M&P 22 Compact is by far, my favorite!

It's easy to load, easy to clean, is super accurate and happily eats everything I feed it.

I have both of these pistols and shoot them both a lot. I did put all the available upgrades on my GSG 1911-22 from CW Accessories though so it may not be a good comparison. (The Performance Kit makes a world of difference). Pre-Upgrade; my M&P compact .22 would for sure run circles around the GSG 1911-22. Post-Upgrade; I gotta give the nod to the GSG in terms of accuracy. Maybe just a tiny bit more so now, but it's there. Both pistols are great - if I had to pick just one though, I would give the M&P Compact the nod. I've poured a bunch of money into the GSG 1911-22 to make it right; it's been fun to tinker with too. But out of the box, the M&P Compact .22 is an awesome little gun. IMO, a better pistol than the Walther P22 or the Ruger SR22. The Ruger may equal the Smith in quality; but I favor the M&P Compact's ergonomics and operation.

The Ruger SR22 is a good pistol but the one thing that breaks the deal for me is the safety. Up is off and down is on. Totally reverse of other guns. Did not want to take a chance of any muscle memory development with that. Now that I have the 22 compact and see how great it is right out of the box. I am very happy with my choice.

Has anyone shot the MP22 Compact suppressed yet?

I have a Walther P22 and it's been okay, but I am needing a second 22 pistol to suppress and I have been looking at the MP22 Compact. The LE dealer in my area told me that he would check Monday when he went to the store if he had one in stock.

My Walther has been fine except it won't shoot subsonic suppressed.

Supersonic suppressed works just fine.

Interestingly that is precisely why I like my two SR22's. The safety mimics all my Berreta's , FN's, and third gen Smth's. The fact they they have never missed a beat no matter what "junk" I put through them is positive also.
I was planning to get the M&P but Beretta is planning a dedicated 92FS .22lr which I prefer over a conversion kit at the same price. Still, the compact is a big improvement in materials and workmanship over its predecessor.

After reading positive reviews here, I ordered 3 of the M&P 22 compacts last Saturday from gunbuyer.com and picked them up today at Bud's. Intentionally didn't clean any of them before testing them out and the ammo I used was Winchester 555 bulk pack. All three pistols ran without a hiccup so I believe properly cleaned and lubed, they should run just fine with about any ammo you put in them. The guns are very nice feeling and just plain fun to shoot. IMO, S&W has a winner here and I just don't believe you will find a better current mfg gun for under $300 that can beat it. I wanted something that I could take my wife and son shooting and not have to fidget with jams/problems like experienced with some of the other 22 auto pistols I've had the displeasure of owning in the last few years and so far these fit the bill nicely.

Why does everyone want the compact 22? My full size shoots great and is my favorite M&P I own. Yes and it also chokes on low power rounds but will eat Remington ThunderBolts all day. With the red dot site it will shoot a 5/8" group indoors at 20yds. Why a compact 22 your not going to use it for SD.

Bad guy breaks into house.
Good guy (or gal) comes around the corner pointing a black 22C.

What happens next?

1. Bad guy starts laughing because he instantly recognizes it as a 22 and is not as afraid?

2. Bad guy starts bleeding with 10 tiny holes in him he wasn't born with or better yet sees what he knows is a gun and runs the other way as fast as he can?

I would bet number 2 before number 1. I own a 9C but would not hesitate to carry the 22C if my 9 was down. That is until I buy a 45C. Then it and my 9 would have to be down. Fat chance.
