M&P 22 Compact Good or bad?

Bad guy breaks into house.
Good guy (or gal) comes around the corner pointing a black 22C.

What happens next?

1. Bad guy starts laughing because he instantly recognizes it as a 22 and is not as afraid?

2. Bad guy starts bleeding with 10 tiny holes in him he wasn't born with or better yet sees what he knows is a gun and runs the other way as fast as he can?

I would bet number 2 before number 1. I own a 9C but would not hesitate to carry the 22C if my 9 was down. That is until I buy a 45C. Then it and my 9 would have to be down. Fat chance.

There is also #3
Man with 10 holes in chest shoots 22c used with a real gun before he bleeds out. Dieing man wishes he would have bought a FS 22 so that he might have centered all 10 shots better.

Would have typed #3 but needed a bathroom break.

So your point is you own a FS 22 and you consider it superior to the 22C. I'll have to shoot one and see, I might just agree with you.

Hello, I got the full size first, loved it! Got rid of my picky SIG mosquito the next day and didn't look back! Recently got the MP. 22compact and like it even more, eats any thing I feed it! The only draw back is my wife loves it more than me and says it's hers now! BTW I have thumb safeties on all my MPs,9+40 and a 9 shield, it's my 1911 up bringing .

20150419_082823.jpgNo I don't feel that my FS is a better gun all S&W guns are great guns. For want I use mine for I do feel it is better then the compact. I do all my shooting at a indoor range and punching holes in targets and shooting for groups the longer sight radius is better when using open sights. The compact probably would work as well for me as I shoot all my guns with optics on them at sight radius doesn't mean much. The only guns I shoot with open sights is my 1911 R1 and my GP100 and they don't have rails on them or they would have optics. My old eyes just can't see that front sight very well anymore.

Has anyone shot the MP22 Compact suppressed yet?

I have a Walther P22 and it's been okay, but I am needing a second 22 pistol to suppress and I have been looking at the MP22 Compact. The LE dealer in my area told me that he would check Monday when he went to the store if he had one in stock.

My Walther has been fine except it won't shoot subsonic suppressed.

Supersonic suppressed works just fine.

There are lots of us here runnging the 22C suppressed.

It is a reliable , and very quiet host.

Thank you. Did your pistol come with the threaded adapter or is that extra? Or is there some pistols that come with it and some without?

If I need to, I will grab a Stalking Rhino adapter when they produce another run specifically for the 22C and Silencerco Sparrow.

My current 22 suppressor is an AWC Valkyrie II. The Sparrow is still at my dealer's waiting for form 4 approval.

My pistol came without an adapter. S&W wasn't offering them back then. I bought mine from EWK Arms, and recommend him, but there are a number of excellent vendors out there (TROS, Twin Tech, etc.) that have Sparrow-compatible adapters in stock. There's nothing magic about a Sparrow-Spectre-Warlock compatible adapter. (Note that the top photo is my Spectre II) It's just a small machined area at the end to engage the O-ring. I certainly wouldn't wait for SRI.

I purchased an M&P22 compact last fall after weeks of consideration, and was not disappointed. The first time out I put 450 rounds of nine different brands of ammo through it, with only one failure to feed. Since then it's been flawless. I love it so much, I recently bought another, this time the suppressor ready model with adapter. Easily as pleased with it as the first one.... They're five hundred dollars worth of fun for three hundred bucks!

I have a bunch of Remington Yellowjackets that I shouldn't be using in my Ruger Mark II bull barrel. How does the M&P 22 Compact handle this stuff? I think that I would like the weight of the Compact for everyday carry on my acreage. Good thinking?

Ok. before i break mine, how hard is it to get the end off so i can screw on my suppressor adapter?

it barely budged.

i am using a wrench from ewk arms.

I don't know what gorilla they have at S&W honking these barrel caps on, but I had to put serious torque on mine, and it finally broke free with a loud "SNAP."

Hey, Smith, I mean...***?

I bought a full size M&P .22 about six months ago. One of the sweetest guns I've ever owned. And talk about fun to shoot. I have big hands and don't carry a .22 concealed so compact guns don't do it for me. It has taken any brand of ammo I have fed it (CCI, Federal, Remington, etc.) without a single glitch. Have no reason to shoot sub sonic. I'm also at a loss as to why one would need a suppressor with a .22 but that is just me.

Interesting. I have big, catcher's mitt hands, and the 22C fits perfectly. To each his own, I guess.

That last line is spoken like a man who has never fired a suppressed .22. All my .22's have threaded barrels, and can and do act as suppressor hosts. In addition to the just plain fun of shooting with no hearing protection on, it makes it so much easier on new shooters. I can teach without raising my voice, and I know they're hearing every word I say. A .22 is almost the perfect round to suppress.

In fact, these days I get annoyed when I'm shooting unsuppressed.

It's also a courtesy to your neighbors who happen to be in earshot when shooting at home....especially if you shoot regularly.

duh. reverse threaded. righty loosie.

will take it to work and give it a shot.
my sparrow is in jail but i have a valkyrie ii that should work.

will try to remember to take a picture or video!

??? Mine was RH thread. It came off pretty easily. I don't have a kit yet but altered a wrench and took the protector off out of curiosity.

Maybe I'm confused?

It turns left to tighten and right to loosen?

I was talking about taking the end off the barrel to put the adapter on.

The suppressor part is RH thread.

Let's see if I get this video working...

I paid over $300 at the lgs and still think it was a bargain. It won't run on federal 550 bulk packs, but of my five rimfires, the sig 522 is the only one that will. My 22c cycles about anything else and is very accurate. I get a big stupid grin on my face every time I shoot it.

After fifty odd posts it is a bit redundant to say I like my Compact. Actually I have both the full size and Compact pistols and much prefer the Compact by a large degree because of the weight, grip ergonomics accuracy and construction. Since the advent of the Compact and dissolving contacts between S&W and Walther I doubt comparison now is a viable issue. I have yet to have a malfunction with the Compacd pistol.
