Holes in clothes. What do you guys do?

Lately I've been going through shirts like crazy. Most don't last a season and some don't even last a day. I get holes in the back by the waist. I know it's from holsters. I carry IWB using a holster with metal clips that are spread far apart.

The rear clip rubs against the shirt when I sit/lean against a back rest.

I've been carrying this way since 2009 and never had a problem. However, within the last 2 or 3 years I've been going through shirts like crazy.

Am i the only one? What do you guys do in this situation? I don't want to change holster style.

And as of last week I put a hole in my jeans from my 1911. Carried the same way. It rubbed a hole just above my rear pocket

Remember the Woodrow Call quote about Deets in Lonesome Dove "He's not one to giveup on a garment just cause it takes on a little age".

Patch, Patch, Patch! Quality of patch depends upon who is doing it, wife is much better than I am, though I can use the iron on patches fairly well, though I still burn my fingers testing the iron for heat? :(
 
If the pocket knife clip, playing with the dogs, yard work, work, etc. don't ruin my clothes then a holster will. Not sure the solution except to either live with 'em or buy more clothes!
 
All the clothing with holes become work clothes but it's a pain in the ... to keep buying new. I tend to wear nice(er) stuff when I'm outside of work. 2 years ago I was going to a friend's daughter's birthday. Wore nice t-shirt. It was a bit of a drive and I must have rubbed a nice hole in the shirt somehow and didn't know it. Well I'm at the party for a few hours, socializing, walking around, having a good time when I go to adjust my pants I felt this hole. Ran to the bathroom to check and it wasn't some little, barely visible hole, it was fist sized. I was so embarrassed. Everyone is dressed nice and here I am wearing something that looks like it belongs for yard work
 
I'd try getting into a different kind of holster. I started out with kydex, but as soon as I tried a good quality leather holster, there was no turning back...

I use Milt Sparks VMIIs (IWB) and Lobo IWB holsters, and they both attach with leather snap straps. No holes in my clothes, and much more comfortable. YMMV.
 
I carry a hybrid made by Bianchi that is similar to yours only it has the C-Clips. I'm not seeing any holes made by the clips, but I do get some every so often from the gun-butt hitting on something. You might consider buying different clips. You can buy them from several holster makers such as Comp-tac and Alien Gear. You can even buy Velcro clips that have "hook" side of the Velcro on them and that mates with the "loop" side attached to the inside of your belt and are completely hidden.

Don't care for leather. Too thick and the clips are too close together. With the clips spread out so is the weight. Also uncomfortable because all the material is in one spot and again. ..thicker. With the hybrid holsters the part against my body is flat. With the leather holster it's like stuffing just the gun in my waist band.
 
Have you thought of covering the metal clips with a shrink wrap plastic or something similar?

If this has been happening only in the last 2-3 years what did you change over the previous years? Whatever it was, change back.

You might also want to check Lobo's web site. Perhaps he'd be willing to fit one up for you.

I just reread your OP. You've been carrying IWB since 2009. In the last 2-3 years you've been getting holes. Was that when you changed to the leather backed Kydex? I would investigate what changed and when. Then try to work up a solution.

Sorry if this seems to be a rant but I've had to force myself to do what I'm suggesting myself. Usually works out to be a face palm moment. Good luck.

Pants are good until the crotch wears out.I have severalfavorite pair of Basic Edition sweats that I bought back in oh eight.Only now--have they just started to wear out--all in the crotch area and two bottom part of the right leg. The carp that Wm sells--I was forced into buying several pair a few months ago--and every one is starting to wear out in several areas.

I have a wallet that I stilluse daily--that I bought from Sears when I was fiveteen.Thats now been thirty three years ago.anyway,the only reason its starting to wear out--was because I washed it a lot and the top of one side--hs finally come loose so--I ripped it off.Wallet still functions like its supposed to. Anyway--brand:Off Shore.I dont know if these are still made or not? This wallet probably still has six or seven more years use left in it. :D
 
I agree with "dmar", change holsters.
Don't like leather? The new kydex ones are amazing. I carried leather when I was in my 30s and 40s, going through painful changes as my body shape changed and the creaked when I moved.

With metal clips, I had the same problem you have. Sooo, metal clips are on my no-no list. I have mostly off-the-rack kydex, but also a few custom ones. They work great and often come with several belt mounts that can be adapted to body shape and clothing.
 
Arik, I had a couple thoughts about your problem. If it's the rear clip that's doing the damage does it have a bur on it that rubs the shirt? A small "melt job" might be just what you need.

Also I have a DeSantis Sof-Tuc that uses a "j" style clip to hold the belt. Goes between the belt and the pants. Very little of the clip comes in contact with my shirt. It's also tuckable. Might be worth a look.
 
In many years of carrying concealed, I've never experienced such a problem.

Of course, I wouldn't use a holster with metal clips or a plastic holster: all leather is a basic requirement for me.

I use a Del Fatti iwb or a Milt Sparks owb exclusively and have for years.
