I recently joined eBay and bought a bunch of small inexpensive items. I made a big mistake though. I linked my Paypal account to my savings account. I purchased over 20 computer parts and a few pocket knives.
I just found out that the govt limits you to 6 withdrawals per month. Any amount over six is charged 15 dollars per withdrawal. I ended up with a $135.00 fine. Had no idea about this. Bummer!

I see what happened. Apparently it's common with Paypal accounts. I wouldn't link anything to a savings account. Can you change to a checking account for Paypal?

I haven't linked my eBay to any account.
It's a credit card I have 'linked' for payment.
I have received numerous e screams from eBay wanting to complete my verification.
They have threatened to cut me off!
It's not my fault that I'm so difficult and unresponsive.
It runs in my family!

Certain types of money market savings accounts get a higher rate of interest. The limit is on the number of transactions per month. t would be in the disclosures that they are required to have you sign.

In my case it is per statement period, which is not on a month boundary, so I have to keep careful track of them.

But to avoid account fraud, I would not ever for any reason link anything to a savings account.

I just recently set up a paypal account to buy a car part online, I couldn't get them to take my credit card. I linked my paypal account to my credit card. That was the only time I used it, but my purchase passed through paypal direct to my credit card. It isn't linked to any bank accounts, nor do I have any money in it.

I am very squeamish about linking it to my bank accounts, but I can't see any downside to the credit card. They take the risk, not me.

Interesting I often transfer funds from my savings account to checking account and every so often I get a message that I am almost to my limit. Never really paid attention before. My ebay acct is linked to my checking.

Man thanks......

I think I'm ok here but my checking account is linked to my savings at my Credit Union that transfers funds if needed. I was totally unaware of this 'catch'. Fortunately, I don't make that many Paypal transactions and I'm planning to make even less.

In fact my son tried to make an order tonight with Paypal, it wouldn't 'take' and we ended up using a credit card. Paypal has been going downhill. It WAS great, but not any more.

My bank at one time thought they were being 'helpful' by linking my savings and checking accounts. They called it overdraft protection.

I asked them, "so if someone gets my ATM card, they can drain BOTH accounts?"

"Umm, yes"

"Break the link!"

Watch out for a PayPal link to your bank account.

I almost never use PayPal, but once had someone raid my bank account of $800 fraudulently using PayPal. I got it reversed, but it took some effort. PayPal was completely unresponsive to my inquiry of how this could have happened. In my opinion PayPal owes a full explanation when something like this occurs.

I don't really like PayPal. YMMV.

I set up a separate free checking account just for linking to PayPal. I keep $20 in it. I pay for items with a credit card. If I sell something, I transfer the money to the linked account and remove it as soon as it shows up.

Someday, someone may hack my account and steal the $20... It won't be the worst thing that ever happened to me.

DO NOT ever, ever link Ebay, Paypal or any other online commercial enterprise to any bank account. That is the surefire way to Identity Theft followed by a quick draining of funds from your accounts. Break those links asap. That is the same as standing on a corner with a sign with your personal information on it.

Ok I don't believe it was the Federal Government that "fined" you but more like your bank...

Take my advice guys... NEVER link your savings or checking account to paypal/ebay.
what I used to do that worked for me was to apply for a GreenDot reloadable mastercard. You can get them for free here https://www.greendot.com/greendot/

What is is, it's basically a reloadable secured credit card. And that is the card I link to my ebay. That way if your security is ever compromised, you only risk losing out whatever you loaded on your card, not your personal banking info.... Greendot is a member of the FDIC & your funds are protected. You can also link your greendot card to your banking info if you wish, they are reloadable at many retailers over the counter including walgreens, CVS, 7-11...etc.

PayPal is a bank. It may not have a lobby, tellers, or a drive-thru, but it is just a bank. Electronic fund transfers between banks are routine matters.

PayPal services customers all over the world. Payments may be sent anywhere, in any currency, via balance transfer or credit card debit, and the recipient will receive the credit in his own currency automatically and instantly. When paying a bill by credit card your card account information is not shared with the recipient, which in itself provides a valuable layer of protection.

There is no charge to the purchaser for using PayPal. Sellers pay the fees, which are very similar to the fees charged by commercial banks to factor credit card transactions.

About 60% of my customers choose to remit payments via PayPal. A customer in Germany, Israel, Tanzania, Australia, Hong Kong, or anywhere else just as easily and safely as customers anywhere in the United States. Payments accumulate in my PayPal account allowing me to send payments to suppliers or others easily, or transfer to my checking account (which costs me nothing and is usually completed in one business day).

Like everything else devised by humans PayPal is not perfect. The sheer volume involved with tens of millions of transactions is a daunting undertaking. Everything considered, in my opinion PayPal provides generally excellent service on a consistent basis.

I thought paypal was anti gun?

Oops! I reckon someone forgot to mention that to the NRA, since you can join or renew using PayPal.

I did the same thing, except I'll transfer the exact amount of the transaction from another account before I use Paypal to pay, that way I get around the credit card charge.

Call your bank. Tell them what happened. Beg forgiveness. If that doesn't work just say I know it was my fault but I really can't afford this. Tell them you will have to close your savings account to avoid any other charges.

This always works for me when I screw up. Get those charges reversed. Be very apologetic and ask politely.
