I drove down to North Carolina for my nieces wedding. I have some BAD news for you guys....I THINK YOU'VE BEEN INFILTRATED BY YANKEES!!!! :D

I can honestly say that I didn't hear one Southern accent the whole time I was there. I was disappointed. It was sort of like being in New York, but with nicer weather. :D

You must have been in Cary (just outside of Raleigh), or around the South Park section of Charlotte...

It's been ten years since I was last in NC but I was the damn Yankee there. I always did like the people there but maybe I was just in the right places too. Might have to get back there too one of these days.

I live in the Hampton Roads area of Va near NC line. Around here the natives refer to it just as Carolina. If they use the North they are the tourists and move ins.

Not too far from there....Apex, Holly Springs. :)

My brother-in-law told me that if I wanted to hear the Southern accent, I'd have to go out to the tobacco fields. :)

they can't drive worth a hoot in the mountains!:D

That's a fact...I worked on a habitat project in Rabun county this Friday and on the way there I got behind some cat who rode his brakes like he owned stock in Raybestos.

In my lifetime I've seen those mountain areas go from extreme poverty to some areas with a good deal of prosperity. That's a good thing but it's a bit jarring to see chain restaurants and big box retailers in what used to be quiet little mountain towns with mom and pop stores.

Did you stop by and say "hello" to Billy Redden.. he did live in Clayton?
Rabun County has more National Forest than any county in Georgia.. I've prospected many areas there for both gold and other minerals.

Billy at 15 when he played in Deliverance... oh, he really can't play the banjo!

Didn't see Billy...

Rabun county at one time probably had more stills than any other county. I found a busted up one when I was grouse hunting one time. It actually had ax-shaped holes in it. I wish I could have taken a picture but I didn't have camera on me at the time. This was a good while before digital cameras and I didn't have a small film camera.

Thankfully I never found a still in operation...

You came back?!

:D

Yeah, drove down Friday....got there about 3:30AM Saturday morning. Niece got married 3:00 Saturday afternoon. Slept over til Sunday. Left 1:30 Sunday afternoon and got home at 12:30AM. 13 hours to get there, 11 to get home (took a different route....bypassed D.C.). Wife is staying down there for the week with her sisters, they rented a beach house on the ocean. She's got the week off. I have to work. :(

I got to drive my wife's new Nissan Altima down and back. Very comfortable ride, no problem keeping up with traffic, and awesome gas mileage! :)
