THE ENEMY NEXT DOOR

There is a way to make the wall/fence effective.

Ship all those who breech it home in a body bag.

Wall---heck fire boys, the wall didn't help the Communist in Berlin.
There is one sure fire way to make this situation go away----I'm not sure that Mexico would appreciate the solution.
Blessings

Just an observation:

It seems there are at least two issues here that are being intertwined and considered as one and the same: immigration of people fleeing from the chaos and lawlessness and seeking economic security, and cross-border transshipment of narcotics.

Without question, there are some common elements to both.

But I think we need to keep in mind these are different issues, with solutions that are best considered differently as well.

In my opinion, one of the ways to move toward getting a handle on the drug problem in our country is decriminalization. I just don't think there is really any other way that will work.

As far as the problem of illegal immigration by those seeking better opportunity and security, I personally am in favor of letting those people come here. I think it is an expression of the highest ideals on which our Nation was founded, to do so.

The idea of a wall, or a DMZ-like border, is ridiculous to me. No offense intended. I just think it's a very short-sighted and pointless "solution" to either of the problems listed above.

If the problem can't (or won't, by choice) be stopped at the border, be ready to deal with it, whether you're in Laredo, Texas or Lorain, Ohio.

I don't care if you're humming a "narco-corrido" or screaming "Allahu akhbar!". If you put me in reasonable and immediate fear of life and limb, you're going to have a really bad day.

Life comes at you fast. Be ready to shoot it in the head when it does.

It ain't just Texans!
I should hope they are aware, but the young fellow I listened to didn't mention any other state.
Only quoted a statement from a Mexican national being "interviewed" after he was arrested for : DUI, resisting arrest, lack of valid immigration docs, possesion with intent to distribute...and being stupid in a no stupid zone.

I had something here but thought maybe I better get rid of it in case it would offend someone. It was said as a joke but someone brought it to my attention that I may get dinged for it so I decided to take it down.

Israel had far worse problems and built the Separation Barrier at a cost of 3 million dollars a mile. Our 2000 mile southern border could get this treatment for six billion dollars. Thats a bunch of money, but I bet the combined costs associated with our current failed policy are higher. Current Washington legislation will not stop the unauthorized crossings. If your house is flooding, first turn off the water.

Oh come on fellas all it takes is to build deer stands about 200 yards apart along the fence area. Have a no bag limit and charge a slight fee for the license people would come from all over the world to protect our border. You could also charge an extra 5 bucks and call them migratory. Think of the revenue this would bring in. Not to mention the taxidermy charges.

I would be much more worried over the tourists who would visit in a desire to commit casual murder under such a scheme than over those attempting to cross the border now.

We're pretty well up on the problems, the solutions are a little more difficult.....

Decriminalizarion is a noble experiment. It has way less to do with border criminality than many know. Borders have always been the where worst of both nations come together.

We have an immigration process. I know many who have applied and received legal residency.
Our highest ideals are that we are a nation of laws, applied equally.

I have a fence around my home, locks on my doors. I have no moral obligation to remove them.

fence? Fences have ends-cartels have boats and use them.. fences have tops and bottoms:cartels dig tunnels, carry ladders, cut fences. Cartels use airplanes, catapults, humans as mules and walk through check points. They use bribery and threats to get massive amounts of drugs through.

The Israeli fence helps, but the Israelis are in a state of war all the time. Armed men attack through the fence, rockets are launched over it, little kids and women are strapped up with vests and pointed at the check points. Kind of like putting a bandaid on a heart attack. The Israeli army and air force are used frequently on both sides of the fence, and it still doesn't stop. The terrorists use deep tunnels to import weapons.

All very true, but....

Big difference between Israel and the Southwestern United States.
Mexico is not at war with the U.S.
Mexico doesn't hate the U.S.
Violence on the border is most all based on financial gain.
Immigration is all based on financial gain.
There's no ideological or religious aspect to it, there's drug addiction and supply/demand.
Most of the drug problem would be eliminated if addicts and potential addicts were treated as the sick people they are.
Many people who once used drugs (including weed) found out it's just escapism and a lie, and gave it up (through many different methods).

We can't fix Mexicos corruption, but we can stop participating in their exportation of poverty. If we do that, it might force them to address their own economy.

Odd isn't it that the only two countries in the world which apparently have no right to national sovereignty and secure borders are the United States and Israel...?

I cant say much but, i fully agree. If I said more--id be dinged.

Lets sub contract the southern border security to South Korea. They could use the work had have half a century of experience dealing with a hostile bordering country.
