COLLECTING PD GUNS

The FLorida Highway Patrol had a couple of marked Colt Pythons and S&W Model 27s I believe. The Beretta 96Ds have been ditched and replaced with GLOCK 37s in .45 GAP. K9 Troopers were (not sure if they still are) GLOCK 27s as a BUG.

Miami-Dade County Police, City of Miami, Homestead, Coral Gables, and the majority of the agencies in South Florida do not mark their guns. I do know though that City of Miami GLOCKs and Miami-Dade County Police GLOCKs are required to have the "Miami" Barrel.

Personally I don't wish to own a agency marked firearm unless it was mine or a family member's. Both my father and I are cops and we both carry of course on and off duty. I would like to be given the chance to either retire with my issue firearm or purchase it. I hope my father is given the same option. He's been doing it for 35 years and is close to finally calling it quits. The agency we both work for don't mark the department owned firearms. So in the end only I or my family would know it was a PD issued gun.

I enjoy collecting Military marked arms instead. M1 Garands, M1 Carbines, S&W Victory Revolvers, Mosin Nagants, Mauser, Enfields, etc....

The LEO side of collect is patches for me.

I saw one from Kentucky and it was a PPK/S and it sad KYSP

Interesting article, I hadn't heard that before.

I agree with your sentiment on PD marked guns too. I wouldn't want to own one that I hadn't carried.

Those were carried from about 1996-2000. A lot of problems came with those and can be found pretty easy due to a lot of units not even wanting to buy them. They are marked with the agency seal on the slide behind the ejection port and it also have a property number on them. They were a backup/of duty. Most didnt carry on their side and just carried the 1076 10mm. After all what would you rather have? a .380 on your side or 10mm?

Didn't know someone issued a Walther PPK/S. Would have figured if a BUG is issued it would be a J frame or a Compact like a small frame Smith Auto.

We the smith model 60 was used since about 1968-69 and it was carried for almost 30 years. When you have a Smith 1076 you really cant form a weapons system. The walther ppk/s was then sold to units or surplus. There are about 1200 or so around. The walther was/is not a good duty gun.

I collect Virginia State Police service weapons and commemoratives. Includes the current Sigs, older Smith & Wesson autos and wheel guns, even the real old Colts. Plus Winchester and Remington riot guns, a Reising SMG and two Colt Thompsons. It's a serious hobby. I've even found two Remington 700 snipers but have not yet been able to pry them away from the owner.

I have a weapon that I could use some input on from those more knwledgable than I. First, it's a Colt DetSpecial 1st Generation. Please forgive me but I do love that little D frame. It has a very distinct and professionally done stamp of " INS " under the left grip panal on the frame. I am guesing that it may have been an Immigration and Naturalization contract gun many moons ago. Can anyone provide any input or any former agents from that agency here on the forum? I would appreciate any information or theories you all could provide. It's .38 special caliber. Factory walnut grips and shows nrmal wear for a weapon of that age and era. Thanks in asvance.

I collect military and police marked pistols and revolvers. Most of mine are from Texas but I've gotten some from Oklahoma, New York, etc. When I see them and the price isn't too high I pick them up. Some are rare, (1200 M-10 New York State Police, 357 Magnums) 520s are high and when you get into Registered Magnums you are talking big bucks. My favorites here are Texas Dept. of Public Safety M-28 and M-19 DPS marked and my Austin PD marked nickel 3 1/2 inch M-27. I think Military and Police marked firearms are an interesting area to colllect.

I have had to modify my quest...the sheer volume of police marked weapons out there is just too great to even begin to think of collecting them all. Consequently, I have narrowed my search to PSP weapons, as PA is my home state. I am looking for information on distinguishing features or characteristics for the 4" Stainless Ruger Security Six that was standard issue PRIOR to the NP3 Beretta 96. The Rugers are not specifically marked PSP, but they must fall into a serial range, have some unique feature or difference from non-issue revolvers.

Prior to the Ruger the PSP issued Colts, any information on those would be appreciated as well. If anyone knows of any PSP issue revolvers, pistols, rifles or shotguns please let me know.

Posted this picture of my Boston Police Department marked circa 1931 Colt Bankers Special. I know we are looking for State Police handguns here... Just thought you might be interested. Saw an earlier poster who I believe collects Boston marked guns. Bye the way, I have not lettered this one, but the markings match a couple that I have seen. Should say that "I believe that it is Boston PD".

Wow, this thread just keeps going. I just got a like on a 5 year old post.

Here is my NYSP marked 681. These guns are the reason the NYSP passed on the 520s:

I have guns that were personally marked with officer's names and agency badge, but that's getting rarer. Nowadays they are not marked at all or have a control number of some sort. For example, my latest purchase is a 4043 from the TABC, the dust cover has the number "14537" rollmarked in it. (why they just do not use the original serial# is beyond me) No mention of agency name though.

TABC is likely the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission.
