Cost constraints being of issue, looking at installing a Nikon M-308 scope w/ LaRue QD LT745 20moa mount. Would like to know if there are any problems with using this combo. I am new to the scope/mount arena, and appreciate any feedback, positive or negative. Like to shoot at the range, so I thought this would be a good scope to cover 100yd to 800yd range.

The stock 20 MOA M-308 mount fit just fine on my M&P10 and my 7.62 MVP Patrol. So, I would think the LaRue would work fine. Granted, this is just eye balling the mount on the internet and looking at the stock mounts on my rifles.

That mount will work just fine for Nikon's M-308. A friend has it on his Sig 716 and sometimes complain's about it being a little low for his cheek weld. If you do not plan on taking the scope on and off save a bunch of money and get a different mount. As QD mount's go, you picked a good one!

Rug, I totally agree or M-223 XR which as the 20 MOA built into the base. But, if Run. plan's on removing his optic for whatever reason he picked a great mount that will give him repeatable accuracy when removing and reattaching.
Here's a pic of my M-308 mount which is the same as the M-223 XR mount with 1 inch rings.

For my M&P10, the factory mount isn't a problem since I mounted my MBUS on 45 degree offset rails. A scope problem, won't slow me down. Now on my MVP, a QD mount would be ideal since the iron sights can not be offset. Being able to remove the scope without tools would be a nice feature on it.

Just wondering, what scenario do you envision that would require quick release of a scope? I have allot of scoped rifles over the years and never had a situation where I need to quickly and toolessly remove my scope. If cost is an issue Larue is great kit but it was designed for the military who actually need quick realease. I know we all like kitting our guns out like military rifles, I'm very guilty of that, but price wise there are son great mounts far less costly than Larue. I bought a Warne which is around a $100.00 and it is very nice and quite repeatable. I really only ever take it off for maintenance.

In my case, since the MVP is the only one I'm concerned about, if something happens to damage the scope when I'm out hunting. The hunt isn't a wash since I can remove the scope quickly without tools and just use the iron sights. It's a .308 model, so I can viably use it for deer hunting since it's above the .24 caliber limit PA set in place as a minimum caliber for such purposes.

I wanted the QD because of the ability to remove and attach my aimpoint red dot at the range. Thanks everyone for their valuable input. Much appreciated.

Exactly the reason I used a Burris PEPR mount for the scope on mine. I also have an Eotech 552 XR 308. They both have their use - scope for load development / long range and the red dot for more casual shooting (isn't America great?). If you have them, might as well use them. Good luck with yours!

I have the vortex 2 inch cantilever mount on my mp10, also have the vortex viper 6-24x50ffp, they say from the factory that it doesnt need to be lapped but just to be sure i put the wheeler lapping rod in there anyway, what could it hurt? Well, turns out they were totally wrong, after 5 min of lapping i checked and there were barely any silver spots showing. it ended up taking so much to get at least 75 percent contact that it removed a lot of material, so much so that the top ring halves almost contact the bottom now, not good. I am really thinking about getting a burris pepr but have read some bad reviews about the qd arms binding up, but i am also seeing some great reviews on this thread about them, and the fact that it is on sale for 59 bucks right now at PSA makes it pretty enticing. Also, as far as the need to detach quickly, i didnt really see the need for it either, until i was deer hunting the other day and it started pouring the rain, my scope stayed constantly foggy and wet and i had to check it every 2 minutes to make sure it was ok, i then realized that if i had a quick detach mount that then would be the perfect time and scenario in which to utilize it. i never thought i would have the use for one....... until i needed it

I'm pretty happy with the Weaver "Midway" Tactical Grand Slam: 3-10x40mm, MilDot retical/MilDot adjustments, 2nd focal plane (reticle size does not change size with zoom), 1-inch tube, Made in Japan. $300
I am currently using the Nikon M-308 (#832) mount: 1" tube, +20MOA slope; very similar to the M-223XR mount.

I have a Nikon M-223XR (#840) 30mm scope mount, added spacers for 1" tube scopes. The XR "Xtra-Rise" mounts have a 20MOA slope for distance. Has only seen the range twice - perfect condition. Great mount. Willing to sell the M-223XR.

I've been using DNZ mounts for a long time now. I just ordered one of their Freedom Reaper 121FPT for my M&P 10. It was right @ $100 on Amazon. I'm using it to mount a Nikon Monarch 2.5-10x50.
