F-16's shoot down Russian Su-24

Toilet paper, can goods, bottled water, MRE's, candy(energy), soap, paper towels, bullet wound first aid kit. Hunker down, sit tight.

WW3 has started, it's coming here too.

I'm not seeing any way to stay out of it. Islamic radicals will draw us into it sooner or later just like they did on 9/11/01. I remember that day all to well.

The next few years will be interesting, likely deciding what the future will look like. Like I said elsewhere, I'd like to be forty years younger. Then again, I wouldn't know so many dirty tricks. Certainly we'll need to ratchet up our "barbarism level" to match the enemy. Joe

Why was the Russian plane just tootling around after being warned waiting to get shot down??? They must have thought that the Turkish planes wouldn't shoot. But why??

The Russians claim it was in Syrian airspace bombing ISIS targets, though in reality it was likely bombing a Turk supported anti Assad group.

To add insult to injury, after the Russian jet was downed by U.S. supplied, Turkish piloted F-16's, the Russians dispatched rescue helicopter's to recover the airmen. One of these helicopters was destroyed with a U.S. supplied, rebel launched TOW missile. News reports say another Russian, a crewman on the helicopter was killed.

If you look at a map the piece of Turkey he is supposed to have over flown is a 3 mile (or less) sliver that juts into Syria. Is it Turkish sovereign airspace? No doubt.

Can you launch an air-to-air missile and guarantee to hit a fast moving target in that window? Not a chance, IMHO.

So, did the Turks have right of "hot pursuit"? Dunno, I am not a lawyer in the subject, nor did I stay in a Holiday Inn last night.:)

IMHO, this has little or NOTHING to do with a Russian aircraft over flying Turkish territory. It has EVERYTHING to do with :-

  1. Turkey hates Assad and wants him gone. They see the current Syrian regime as backing the Kurds. That's a joke, because NOBODY in that neck of the woods backs the Kurds except briefly for their own gain.
  2. The Russians are bombing Turkey's favored Syrian rebel group. Amazingly, they are called the TURKMEN. Rumour control has Turkey arming the Turkmen. Why am I not surprised.
  3. I'm not sure if Turkey have been happy with France, the US and most of the rest of NATO coming to an arrangement with Russia over Syria. A buddy who was stationed in Turkey says they have agendas inside agendas and its place in NATO has always been just because of its location.

I just hate hearing that **** Allah Akbar.
Especially from some jackwagons with
American made weaponry.
Not that i could give two ****s about Russia.

Yeah, me too, sorry about that. Watched it without speakers turned on. Found another clip on Youtube without that stuff, and replaced it. :o

Well according to russian news sites they've got new directives - all bombers will be protected by fighter jets and they've got OK to engage any "potentially dangerous" targets. Mud's getting deeper...
You can almost hear the sound of Turkish AA battery's being moved closer to the border.

I miss the days of that region being tightly controlled by brutal despots. :(

Putin is a calculating and arrogant S*B. Gaining a foothold in the Mideast. We on the other hand are doing nothing to dissuade his misguided behavior. More Obama redirect and discussion with no plan to put him in his place.

The Turkmen are ethnic Turks, and Turkey had expressed it's displeasure at Russia bombing rebels it perceives as it's countrymen.

So this was just like Russia invading Ukraine to protect ethnic Russians.

Putin is all of that and then some, but the governments of western countries on the other hand, have repetitively proven they know nothing about tribal peoples and their conflicts.

Seems like just the other day that the Reagan Doctrine put Gorbachev in his place in Afghanistan. Soviet troops got to leave that god forsaken land, pushed out by CIA backed rebels. Now we victoriously occupy that spoil of war. Great work.

The only tribal conflict we became embroiled in that I can remember resolving positively was Egypt and Israel at the Camp David Accords. And that was between two willing parties that had strong government control.

Will post a link later but what Putin said about abetting terror is true. Much IS income from oil/gas leaves their area through Turkish pipe lines. Hundreds of millions of dollars.

Is Vladimir Putin right to label Turkey
Absolutely. The only country east of Athens that is unlikely to double-deal U.S. national interests is Israel. Anyone doubting that just look at Pakistan hosting Bin laden.

I agree with you with one exception, we are successfully occupying Afghanistan but when we leave their will be such a power vacuum it will be like sticking your head near an Apollo Saturn V rocket engine. The Taliban are just biding their time to make a move when we are gone. You are correct about our lack of our understanding the intricacies of various tribal factions. We are great at killing people and breaking things but when it comes to nation building I think one has to go all the way back to our successful occupation of Japan in WWII. I can't recall a single successful pursuit sense.
