Smith and Wesson has a unique and non-sequential (to some extent) serial numbering system. The only way to find your manufacture date is to either A: Post the first 3 letters and first number from you serial number here, and someone with the Standard Catalog of Smith and Wesson will look it up for you, or B: you can buy a copy of the Standard Catalog of Smith and Wesson and look it up yourself. It is even available as a Kindle e-book for direct reference right on your PC, which is how I have it currently.
Fun fact for those who don't know: The Kindle edition of the SCSW is eligible for Amazon's Kindle Unlimited program, so if you are already a subscriber to that, you have access to the catalog at no additional charge.
-That serial# dates to about 1974.
-The Model 459 was produced from 1979-1987
Both above are from the Standard catalog of S&W 3rd Edition. Something is amiss here that doesn't jive. Can you post some pic's of the pistol?
A buddy wants to sell me his pistol. He texted me a picture of it and that is my best guess on the serial number from a grainy cell phone picture. I was just trying to figure out about how old it was. I'll get a more accurate ser # soon. Thanks for the info.
