A recent thread about home shooting ranges got me wondering.....

Where does everyone do their shooting?

Me.... I'm stuck with an outdoor public range.

At home... Outdoors. This is my handgun range that's right off of my driveway. There are also more steel targets off on the side in the woods. I've since marked out to 80' and added a light weight movable table. I'm actually talking with my father in law about making an indoor range in his barn.

I shoot at a club that I've been a member to for about 40 years. Its a great club and about 15 minutes from where I live. When I'm done shooting I can go in the club and have a beer!

I either just step out my door or if I need a bit more space go to a neighbor who has about forty odd yards to use.

That describes a lot of WV

Family farm. Ranges are absolutely packed with people new to firearms at the moment and that's just not an ideal spot to be in in my opinion. Besides were else would I want to lol

I picked home range outside because it was a close as I could get to where I shoot. We have public land nearby. There is plenty of empty high desert nearby and mountains where you can shoot.

This was taken near one of the place we shoot. If you want to set targets at a 1000 yards or three; you can.

Belonged to a Club like that when I lived in Harrisburg...... Enola SC.; beer and a open kitchen!

Shoot with a group of friends ...... followed by a beer and burger!

At one time belonged to 3 clubs north of the burgh.......for less than $100/year...... now down to one.... 8 miles and 4 stop signs from the house...also a 25 yd range at the Cabin and the neighbor has a 100yd range w/bench.

Economics finally forced poor, old, retired me to give up my longtime club membership for 2016. :o The club only had outdoor rifle and pistol ranges... nothing indoors. It seemed like weather or maintenance activities of some sort or third party training sessions were always a problem anytime I was in a position to go down there. :(

In late-September, I bought a promotional 4-month membership to a premium indoor range and I have gotten a tremendous amount of use and enjoyment out of it. :D No worries about weather or anything else! :) It's been great but it is ending soon. My options are to join for a whole year (expensive) or go hourly fee and cut down on my visits rather drastically... or possibly slip under the radar for another discounted 4-month promotional deal. :p

Life gets a lot more complicated for me later this year so it's not a simple or easy choice. Gonna have to play it by ear. :o

That would come under public outdoor Im thinking.

I must respectfully disagree. A Public Range is an organized facility and usually operated by the County it's in or the State.

BLM, Open Range Land, is just that, it's open wilderness, no buildings, no structures of any kind. Most shooting is done in areas where there are Box Canyons, or where there are natural, deep long ravines.

I can't argue with that Bam. :) Just as the infamous Bam-Bam formula discriminates against older folks like me with little time left above the grass... the one year paid-in-advance membership discriminates against those of us who plan (or hope) to move away before one year is up. :(

In either situation, long-term commitments are not in my best interest right now. :o

Thought you were looking forward to getting out of that "State of Despair"?

into a free state.......

I was a member of a large multi range gun club for 40 years.

When I moved that club is just too far for just informal target shooting so I left it.

I have a almost 100 SAFE yards at my property. If I'm the only one at home I can shoot up to 150 yards.

I joined a small ( limited to 300 members) club about 10 miles down the lake, They have a decent up to 200 yard range and a very decent indoor range, up to 75'. (trap and archery also)

No, unfortunately not. :( The current plan (subject to change) is to move ~40 miles west of here. Mrs. TTSH & I need more land and more house than what we have now for our retirement place. It would no longer be practical to continue shooting at the range in question. :o
