Any information on this would be appreciated. Serial # 90456. S&W hand ejector, nickel although that is in poor to worse shape on the cylinder and sideplate. 5" barrel with same serial on bottom.
38 s&w special
US Service Ctg on left side. Checkered wood grips RH numbered 10242 Fixed sights.
I will need to order a few parts. Any sources would also be helpful. Thank you.

Welcome to the Forum. If the serial number is found on the butt, it would be a 38 Hand Ejector, 1st Change, shipped around 1906-1907. Parts for these revolvers are out there, but you need to pay attention to what era the parts are from. There were quite a few changes made in the early 38 M&Ps, so try to match what you have with what you find. ebay is a very good source for gun parts, as well as gunpartscorp.com and Jack First. Just search for either one on the Internet and you may find what you are looking for. I have added a picture of the insides of a revolver made within a year of yours for comparison.

Welcome to the FORUM! Whenever possible, post pictures. It makes identification much easier. Good luck with your project! Bob

Trying to attach photos. I an basing my guess upon George Nonte's book Pistolsmithing, that I will need a bolt and gas ring to tighten up the cylinder. And a few springs. Any help in specifics that I should be careful about in ordering parts to obtain the correct ones would be much appreciated.

Good pictures. It is shiny, but I assume part of the finish is polished steel and the rest is nickel? The stocks are about 50 or 60 years later. Apparently someone's attempt at "modernizing". Original square butt stocks are diamond service walnut with concave tops and no medallions. ebay has them quite often, so check a couple of times a week and you should find one over time.

Thank you for the stock information. The cylinder has a lot of rust and missing plating. Also the sideplate. It is a good piece to learn on, since there is not much I could do to damage it further.
