In observance of National Puppy Day, I decided to post a few photos of my puppies when they were really...puppies.

Beau stikes a pose at seven weeks of age on his first full day home on November 8, 2010.

Annie and Beau pose for their New Year's Day portrait on January 1, 2011. Annie is almost nine-months-old, and Beau is coming up on three months of age.

Annie and Beau argue over who is the real Top Dog around here in early 2011. They never resolved the issue, but agreed to keep discussing it for the rest of their lives.

Truth be known, though, Annie will always be Top Dog, and she has no hesitation in letting Beau know that by giving him a good butt-whuppin' every now and then, even though Beau now outweighs her by a good fifty pounds. No one ever gets hurt, though.

My Karli, Pictures taken in Switzerland where she was born.

She's a Portuguese Sheepdog. She'll be nine years young next month.

I'll bet she's beautiful now, too. Love the shot with the vines/berries in front of her face. Got any recent photos? C'mon...I know you do.

Don't worry, Karli grew up with Diesel (Giant Schnauzer) and can hold her own.

I lost Diesel three novembers ago, He was gonna turn ten. We really miss him.

Mr. Flint Stone, Born in Georgia.

He's an Australian Cattle Dog. He turned two last November. I don't think he'll ever grow up.

Even though they get older, dogs never really grow up. That's a huge part of why we love them...they are eternally child like, always puppies no matter how old they are.

The late Roger Caras said, "Dogs are not our whole life, but they make our lives whole."

Roger Caras was a skilled wildlife photographer, author, and conservationist. He was also the "Voice of Westminister", the huge dog show held every February in Madison Square Garden. His descriptions and comments were always high points of the show for me.

One of his books is titled A Dog Is Listening. I highly recommend it.

A most appropriate day for puppies. Our two Aussie Shepherds are about a year old. Barley (a mini Aussie) and Maisie (a toy Aussie) and I were out at 7 am for a stroll around the yard in 18" of fresh powder. They're fearless, despite sinking below their heights in the drifts. (The photo of them in the snow is from a mild storm back in December.)

Here is a puppy picture of Marley. She is now a 13 year old Boykin Spaniel, the South Carolina State Dog. They are a small to medium sized, yellow-eyed retrieving machines. The dogs had to be small enough to ride in the small boats used by hunters in the swamps. They are excellent duck and dove dogs.

Marley, her hunting days behind her, is now deaf and blind in her right eye:(, but still loves to retrieve a ball (as long as she sees it). She still acts like a puppy!

And here she is about 5 years ago (I think):

I'm very familiar with Boykins. My next door neighbor had one, and my cousin who lives down in Conway, SC has a Boykin named Molly. They're lovely dogs.

They are beautiful dogs! And I don't know where 7600' is, but I wish I was there with my dogs, playing in the fresh snow!
