I just started to shoot IDPA and I love the Uncle Mike's grips on my Model 19 round butt 2 1/2" snubbie. I'd next tried my Model 19 with a 4" barrel as I thought the longer barrel would help with accuracy. What I found was the Pachmar square butt grip don't fit my hand as they have an open back whereas the Uncle Mike's are a closed back. In other words the back of the frame of the grip is enclosed in rubber. So, it should be easy just buy a set of Uncle Mike's K frame Square butt grips. Wrongo- They don't make Uncle Mike's Grips anymore and there are not any on ebay, gunmaker etc.
Some have suggested Butler Creek, but that company seems to have gone out of business too.
Any suggestions for a rubber Square butt K frame grip with an enclosed back?
Thanks for your help.

I know the grips you're talking about and am very fond of them myself. They are no longer made.
Uncle Mike's/Butler Creek had a contract with Craig Spegal to make copies of his designs in rubber. They proved to be very popular and sold extremely well. However, when the contract expired, Spegal chose not to renew it. Thus putting Butler Creek out of the grip business.
These grips can still be found occasionally on the various auction sites. Sometimes even new in the package. But they are getting scarce and prices are going up. About all you can do is keep looking and hope to get lucky.

I too love closed back grips on a revolver. I recently ordered a pair of Jordan Trooper stocks for my K-frame, though those are wood. If you want a pair of rubber grips that cover the back strap for a S&W K-frame, the original Pachmayr models cover the back strap quite well - its quite a thick piece of rubber. For the S&W K-frame square butt, Pachmayr offers both the Presentation and Gripper models. The Presentation is large, smooth grip and the Gripper has finger grooves. Both are fairly large and comfortable grips, and both cover the back strap as well. They work well at both giving a good grip and controlling Magnum recoil.

I like the Butler Creek grips, too. Didn't realize they were out of production but I'll keep an eye out now. I like Pachmayr Compacs on a round butt K frame because they cover the backstrap w/out being too bulky.

Pachmayr's Presentation and Gripper grips for sq. butts DO enclose the back of the frame. They're what I use, other than Uncle Mike's. Try gun shows for all three at good prices.

I've paid as little as $5.00 for nearly new Pachmayrs. The older two-piece style are best, I think.

These are the best rubber grips out there now. It is a shame they stopped making them for the larger frames. The larger frames are the Decelerator and they are to damn soft!!.

But for a K frame square butt I recommend these. I pit them on all my shooting guns due to the heat and sweating down her in Paradise!

Here are the Uncle Mike's rubber grips for the K/L frame S&W
square butt frame. Got these used ones on Ebay a couple of
months ago for under $40.00 plus shipping. They will help me
hang on to my S&W 681 when I shoot full house loads. :)

Your good, well posed pics deserve more than a Like.

So, Like, Like, Like! :D

That gun, with those grips, is an ideal .357 service revolver.

Like I said before, I'm very fond of those grips. Several of my guns wear them. I also have several sets of the Boot Grips on snubbies which are also excellent. I normally don't care for rubber, but these fit my hand so well that I actually prefer them to nice wood. The really great thing about them was that back then they sold for about $20 brand new.
If its the shape you like, Craig Spegal still makes these in wood, although they will cost a lot more and you'll have to wait for them to be made.
Just FYI: Uncle Mike's/Butler Creek never made these for the N-frames. I think the contract only covered J and K frames. That's a shame because I would have loved to have several sets of these on the big guns.
